Why we like it

Earns its place in the Superhive library for handling dissolve material setup and texture mapping without manual node wrangling.

What is Procedural Dissolving Effect (Pde) Addon - Blender 5.0+?

The Procedural Dissolving Effect (PDE) Add-on brings dissolve effects to Blender. With one click it appends the PDE material from assets.blend and assigns it to selected objects. You work with three sub-textures — PDE_Texture_A, PDE_Texture_B, and PDE_Texture_C — and can quick-import Base Color, Roughness, Normal, Metallic, AO, and Emission maps, with smart detection of map types based on file names and auto-connection to the right Principled BSDF inputs.

Each texture carries dropdown mapping controls covering scale, rotation, and position: a uniform scale slider for all axes, independent X/Y/Z normal scale, full 3-axis rotation in degrees, and X/Y/Z translation. Mapping nodes are auto-created using UV coordinates, then named and reused to keep the node tree organized.

Extra shader controls let you set dissolve edge colors A and B, adjust emission strengths for glowing edges, fine-tune noise scale, detail, and roughness, and control transparency. Optional controller pickers allow empties to drive material properties via drivers. The add-on lives in 3D View > Sidebar > PDE and works with Cycles and Eevee.

Frequently asked questions

What Blender versions does the PDE Add-on support?

The Procedural Dissolving Effect (PDE) Add-on supports Blender versions 4.0 through 5.0 and is listed as Blender Extension compatible, registered as an add-on. It works with both the Cycles and Eevee render engines, so you can use its dissolve material across those workflows. Once installed, the add-on's interface appears under 3D View > Sidebar > PDE, where you apply materials, load textures, and adjust mapping and shader settings.

How do I apply the PDE dissolve material to my objects?

The Procedural Dissolving Effect (PDE) Add-on uses a one-click apply action that appends the PDE material from assets.blend and assigns it to your selected objects instantly. From there you load texture maps, and the add-on can auto-detect map types by file name and connect them to the correct Principled BSDF inputs. All controls — including mapping, edge colors, emission, noise, and transparency — are available in the 3D View Sidebar under the PDE panel.

Is the PDE Add-on free to use?

The Procedural Dissolving Effect (PDE) Add-on is listed as free here and is distributed under the MIT license. Licensing terms can change, so check the developer's page for current details before use. The add-on is published on Superhive, where you can also find its documentation and a demo video.
