Why we like it

Stands out in the aescripts library for tackling frame repair and clean-up through motion interpolation, and version 2 removes TimeWarp's 5000 frame limit so it works on footage of any duration.

What is pt_FrameRestorer 2?

pt_FrameRestorer 2 applies motion interpolation inside After Effects to fix damaged or missing frames and support VFX clean-up work. It can restore dropped or duplicate frames caused by capture issues on digital cinema cameras, replace corrupt or missing frames, and insert frames to fix stutter caused by frame rate conversion.

Beyond frame repair, the script handles a range of clean-up tasks. Its Reduce function creates automatically tracked patches by interpolating between good frames on either side, useful for removing unwanted parts of a shot or focus slips. It can also remove motion blur artefacts from stabilised footage, reduce light flicker from a mismatch between light refresh rates and camera shutter speed, and generate an interpolated clone source to assist with dirt removal. Blending options control the interpolation method, and it is compatible with RE:Vision Effects Twixtor for improved interpolation.

Version 2 finds missing and duplicate frames much faster, removes TimeWarp's 5000 frame limit so it works on any footage duration, and adds repeat markers to help identify repeating frame patterns. Built-in contextual help includes a Google Translate button.

Frequently asked questions

Which After Effects versions does pt_FrameRestorer 2 support?

pt_FrameRestorer 2 supports a wide range of After Effects versions, from CS4 through CS5, CS5.5 and CS6, the CC and CC 2014 to CC 2019 releases, and up to After Effects 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. That coverage spans both older Creative Suite builds and current Creative Cloud releases, so it fits legacy projects as well as up-to-date pipelines. Version 2.2 was last updated on July 7, 2026, with a fix for a separated dimensions issue and a license update.

Does pt_FrameRestorer 2 work with Twixtor?

pt_FrameRestorer 2 is compatible with RE:Vision Effects Twixtor for improved interpolation, and support for Twixtor Pro was added in version 2.1. Twixtor is a separate RE:Vision Effects product, so you would need it available to use that interpolation path. Without it, pt_FrameRestorer 2 still handles frame restoration and clean-up on its own, and blending options let you control the interpolation method used. For current licensing details on either tool, check the developer's page.

Is pt_FrameRestorer 2 free?

pt_FrameRestorer 2 is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing terms can change over time, and the changelog notes license updates in versions 2.1 and 2.2, so it is worth confirming the current terms before you rely on it in a project. For the latest licensing information, download and any conditions attached to use, check the developer's page on aescripts. The script is made by Paul Tuersley and runs inside After Effects.

Does pt_FrameRestorer 2 have the same 5000 frame limit as TimeWarp?

pt_FrameRestorer 2 removes TimeWarp's 5000 frame limit, so it works on footage of any duration rather than being capped as TimeWarp is on its own. This arrived in version 2, alongside much faster detection of missing and duplicate frames. The script also adds repeat markers to help identify repeating frame patterns and an insert frame feature to fix footage stutters. Blending options control the interpolation method, giving you some flexibility over how frames are rebuilt.
