Why we like it

RE:Match Pro earns its place by extending RE:Match with stereo-specific tools: per-pixel registration, occlusion handling, and matte-based refinement of reflections and highlights. As Nick Brooks notes, the specular and optical aberration matching is high quality, and like other RE:Vision Effects software it's parameterized for pro users yet works out of the box.

What is RE:Vision Effects RE:Match Pro?

RE:Match Pro takes the color and tone from one image and transfers it to another, tackling the color and texture matching problems that come with multicam and stereo shoots. It can match colors automatically to correct one shot against another when working with multiple takes or cameras, using the whole image or part of it, and drawing from any point in time.

The Pro edition includes everything in RE:Match and adds features aimed at stereo pairs. Auto image registration uses per-pixel optical flow methods, stereo matching takes occlusions between the two views into account, and it handles frame edge differences where the two images lack corresponding details. Refine-within-matte controls help details such as reflections, lens flares, and specular highlights match between views, and no stereo alignment is required before use.

It works well with over-bright values and very wide dynamic ranges, and a color correction can be stored and reused on other sequences by cut-and-paste. People unfamiliar with color correction can use it to get matching clips, while professionals can pre-grade to simplify their workflow.

Who is RE:Vision Effects RE:Match Pro best for?

RE:Vision Effects RE:Match Pro is best for colorists and editors matching color between shots from multiple cameras or takes, and VFX artists matching stereo pairs.

How much does RE:Vision Effects RE:Match Pro cost?

RE:Vision Effects RE:Match Pro is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Which After Effects versions does RE:Match Pro support?

RE:Match Pro supports After Effects from CS6 and CC through the 2020, 2021, and 2022-24 releases, covering the CC 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2019 versions in between. If you're on AE CC 2015, you'll need version 2015.0.1 (13.5.1) or later for it to run correctly. The plugin also works with Premiere Pro across the same CS6-through-2022-24 range, and among OFX hosts it supports Autograph in all versions. Check the developer's page to confirm the exact build against your host version.

Does RE:Match Pro work in DaVinci Resolve?

RE:Match Pro runs in DaVinci Resolve, with support listed from Resolve 15.1.1 and up. Several features are not available there, though: stereo match, mask shapes, color correction dissolve, and handling more than one cut are limited to certain hosts and excluded in Resolve. The core automatic color matching still applies, transferring color and tone from one shot to another. See the developer's page for the current Resolve build requirements before installing.

Is RE:Match Pro free to use?

RE:Match Pro is listed as free in this catalog. RE:Vision Effects handles its own licensing, so for current terms, activation details, and any purchase or trial options, head to the developer's page. The plugin uses REVisionActivate for activation, and recent updates fixed activation not showing up on macOS Sonoma and resolved hostname mismatch problems on Mac. Confirm the licensing that applies to your setup directly with RE:Vision Effects.

Does RE:Match Pro require stereo alignment before use?

RE:Match Pro does not require stereo alignment beforehand, so you can apply it at any point in your pipeline. It uses internal per-pixel registration through optical flow methods to match stereo pairs, accounting for occlusions between the two views as well as frame edge differences where the images lack corresponding details. Visualization modes are provided to show what RE:Match is doing internally, and refine-within-matte controls help match reflections, lens flares, and specular highlights across the two views.
