Why we like it

RectControl earns its place in the aescripts library for its focused set of rectangle controls, pinning tools, and null workflows aimed at UI animation. It's listed as free here, and version 1.1.0 merged its polling with the developer's AlignAll and Type ReAlign tools into a single shared poll.

What is RectControl?

RectControl, by Adam Sacks, gives control over rectangles in After Effects. It is designed for UI and SaaS animation and useful for more. Core controls cover alignment, corner roundness (linked or separate), corner curvature (convex versus concave), and a squircle option for Apple-style panels.

Much of the tool centres on pinning. You can dynamically pin elements inside or outside your rectangle, and pin gradient stroke and gradient fill start and end points to it. Shapes animate through the Effects Controls, and projects can be passed to animators who do not have RectControl installed, who can still use the Effect Controls. Adding pinned nulls or adjusting alignment without changing position does require RectControl installed. Beyond rectangles, it can change layer anchor points without changing layer position, add parent or child nulls, and use a 9-point grid on non-RectControl layers.

The Extensions panel lets you create RectControl layers, change alignment, create nulls, and save default and preset rectangles. Regular rectangles and Figma rectangles can be replaced with RectControl versions. It supports After Effects 2020 through 2026.

Who is RectControl best for?

RectControl is best for uI and SaaS animation in After Effects, and rectangle-based work more broadly.

How much does RectControl cost?

RectControl is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Which After Effects versions does RectControl support?

RectControl supports After Effects 2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, and 2020, so it covers several years of recent releases. If you are on one of these versions you should be able to run it. For any details beyond this range, or to confirm the latest supported build, check the developer's page, since compatibility can change with new releases and updates to the tool.

Is RectControl free?

RectControl is listed as free in this catalog. Because licensing terms can change over time, check the developer's page for the current details before you rely on that status for a project. The most recent release here is version 1.1.0, updated on 2026-07-13, and the developer's page is the best place to confirm both the current version and how it is distributed.

Can I hand a RectControl project to an animator who doesn't have it installed?

RectControl projects can be passed to animators who don't have RectControl installed, and they can still use the Effect Controls to work with the shapes. There is one limit to note: to add pinned nulls or adjust alignment without changing position, RectControl must be installed. So an animator without it can continue animating through the Effect Controls, but the install-dependent functions won't be available to them.

What changed in RectControl 1.1.0?

RectControl 1.1.0, released on 2026-07-13, improved polling. The developer's tools RectControl, AlignAll, and Type ReAlign each use polls to keep their panel UI in sync with layer selections, and these were merged into a single shared poll so only one runs even with all three open. If you use more than one, upgrade them all to v1.1.0. You can also turn polling off in the settings menu, in which case the UI updates only when your cursor enters the panel.

Can RectControl replace existing Figma rectangles?

RectControl can replace both regular rectangles and Figma rectangles with RectControl versions, which brings them under the tool's alignment, corner, and pinning controls. This lets you take rectangles you already have and swap in the RectControl equivalents rather than rebuilding them. For the exact steps involved, the developer's demo video and page walk through replacing regular and Figma rectangles with RectControl versions.
