Why we like it

Earns its place in the toolfarm library as a character animation system built entirely into Cinema 4D, pairing drag-and-drop rig support with a Walk Designer and crowd control.

What is Rodenburg People in Motion?

Rodenburg People in Motion is a character animation tool for Cinema 4D, built entirely inside the application. Rigged characters from DAZ 3D (Genesis 2 or 3), Renderpeople, AXYZ Design and Autodesk Character Generator can be dropped straight onto the plug-in to start animating, while other human rigs connect by linking their joints. A rig builder is included for adding a standard joint rig to a character model.

A Walk Designer handles walk animations along with movements such as walking up or down stairs and sitting down or standing up. IK controls for the Head, Chest, Hips, Knees, Feet, Elbows and Hands can be set up automatically, and manual IK animations can be overlaid with generic walk or running animations. A simple crowd control system uses Staircases, Elevators, Escalators, Seats, Curves and Wall objects to control the actions and walking paths of characters.

Version 2 is a complete rewrite with different functionality and is not compatible with older versions, so both plug-ins can be installed and run together to keep older projects working. It runs on MacOS or Windows with Cinema 4D R17 through R20, with R20 requiring INSYDIUM's Free Bridge plug-in.

Who is Rodenburg People in Motion best for?

Rodenburg People in Motion is best for cinema 4D artists animating human characters and crowds using rigged models from sources such as DAZ 3D, Renderpeople or AXYZ Design.

How much does Rodenburg People in Motion cost?

Frequently asked questions

Does Rodenburg People in Motion work with Cinema 4D R20?

Rodenburg People in Motion runs on MacOS or Windows with Cinema 4D R17 through R20. For R20 specifically, compatibility requires INSYDIUM's Free Bridge plug-in, which is available through INSYDIUM's registration page. On R17 to R19 no bridge is needed. Confirm your Cinema 4D version falls within this supported range before installing, and set up the Free Bridge first if you plan to run the plug-in under R20.

What characters can I drag and drop into Rodenburg People in Motion?

Rodenburg People in Motion accepts rigged characters through drag and drop from DAZ 3D (Genesis 2 or Genesis 3), Renderpeople rigged characters, AXYZ Design rigged characters, and Autodesk Character Generator, letting you start animating right away. Other human character rigs can be used by connecting the joints with the plug-in, and a rig builder is included to add a standard joint rig to a character model. The plug-in itself does not ship with any characters.

Does Rodenburg People in Motion include characters?

Rodenburg People in Motion R2.x does not include any characters. You can find free rigged characters on the internet or use commercial rigged characters, for instance from DAZ 3D, AXYZ Design or Dosch 3D. Once you have a rigged model, drag and drop supported characters onto the plug-in or connect the joints of other human rigs, then use the included rig builder if a model needs a standard joint rig added.

Is Rodenburg People in Motion free?

Rodenburg People in Motion is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing terms can change, so check the developer's page for current details before you rely on it for a project. The plug-in does not include characters, so factor in that you will need rigged models separately, whether free ones from the internet or commercial characters from sources such as DAZ 3D or AXYZ Design.

Can I still use my old People in Motion projects after upgrading?

Rodenburg People in Motion V2 is a complete rewrite with different functionality and is not compatible with older versions. To keep working with older People in Motion projects, you can install and run both plug-ins at the same time, and doing so is recommended. That way the new version handles current work while the earlier plug-in stays available for files created with it.
