Spool stands out in the Adobe Exchange library by pulling metadata that's usually buried in the Properties panel into one floating readout you can copy from directly.
Spool is a small floating panel for Premiere Pro that surfaces the clip details usually buried in the Properties panel. For each clip it shows the filename, full source file path, codec, resolution, source FPS, total source frame count, and camera model, along with the used range — which source frames the timeline references — source TC and duration, in/out TC and duration, reel name, drop-frame status, and audio format. The readout updates live as you scrub.
A source-track picker in the panel header sets which clip Spool reads: Auto for the topmost track, a specific track like V1 or V2, or Selected for whatever you've highlighted on the timeline. Click any row to copy that value to the clipboard, or use Copy Specs for a formatted multi-line summary of every visible field. Select multiple clips and Copy Specs outputs them all.
You choose which fields appear through the gear menu, and settings persist between sessions. Spool is free to use, its source is available, and tips are welcome via the publisher's Gumroad page.
Spool is best for compiling clip specs for emails, bid docs, conform notes, and VFX handoffs, or quickly locating footage.
Spool is completely free to download and use.
Spool lists compatibility with Premiere Pro 25.6 and later, so it runs on that release and newer versions of the host application. The panel reads clip metadata straight from your timeline and updates live as you scrub. If you're on an earlier Premiere Pro build, check the developer's page for details before installing, since the listed compatibility begins at 25.6. The current release is version 1.2.0, last updated on 2026-05-18.
Spool is listed as free here, and its source is available. The developer notes that tips are welcome through their Gumroad page if the panel saves you time, but there's no required purchase to use it. Everything Spool does — reading clip metadata, copying individual values, and building the Copy Specs summary — is available in the free release. For current licensing terms and any changes to how it's distributed, check the developer's page.
Spool includes a source-track picker in the panel header that controls which clip it reads. You can choose Auto, which reads the topmost track, a specific track such as V1 or V2, or Selected, which reads whichever clip or clips you've highlighted on the timeline. Selecting multiple clips and then using Copy Specs dumps specs for all of them. This picker also stops overlay graphics from being read instead of your footage, which was added in version 1.2.0.
Spool lets you copy metadata two ways. Clicking any field row copies that single value to the clipboard, including the file path row, which copies the full source path. Clicking Copy Specs produces a formatted multi-line summary of every visible field, and with multiple clips selected on the timeline it outputs specs for all of them at once. You choose which fields appear through the gear menu, and those settings persist between sessions.
