theSauceCode turns After Effects comp footage into character-based ASCII art with creative control over the result. It captures frames from your comp, launches a dedicated editor for real-time adjustments, then exports high-quality PNG sequences with alpha transparency that are ready to composite back into your project.
Beyond the conversion itself, the plugin includes procedural animation effects, an Evolution system for parameter interpolation across timelines, and full character customization with fills and strokes. Each effect instance maintains its own isolated session, so you can run multiple ASCII treatments at once. Rendering is 1:1, meaning what you see in the editor matches what you export.
Version 1.3 adds a Timeline, Luminance Channels, SVG Shape Mode, Data Web Caster, and Luminance Levels. theSauceCode is compatible with After Effects 2026 and 2025, and it's listed as free here. A demo video is available on the developer's page for a closer look.
