Why we like it

Tracker Solver earns its place in the aescripts library for turning a few 2D position keyframes into a solved 3D point in the active camera. Support for any After Effects camera, including third-party imports and Mocha data, keeps it flexible.

What is Tracker Solver?

Tracker Solver takes a handful of position keyframes from a 2D layer and solves a 3D position in your active camera. It triangulates the true 3D position in your scene using the active camera's motion and settings, and works with any After Effects camera, including cameras imported from third-party applications. It can also use Mocha data and unsolve a 3D layer.

To solve, it needs a minimum of three keyframes, and additional keyframes can increase accuracy. When the camera moves very little, using more 2D keyframes is recommended. Cameras with animated zoom are not supported, Point of Interest cameras are not supported, and it can only solve or unsolve one layer at a time.

Listed in the aescripts library, Tracker Solver runs across a wide range of After Effects releases, from CS6 through the 2026 version. A demo video is available on the developer's page.

Who is Tracker Solver best for?

Tracker Solver is best for after Effects artists who need to derive a 3D position in the active camera from a 2D layer's position keyframes.

How much does Tracker Solver cost?

Tracker Solver is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Which After Effects versions does Tracker Solver support?

Tracker Solver runs on a broad range of After Effects versions, from CS6 through the 2026 release, and covers the versions in between including CC, CC 2014, CC 2015 through 2015.3, CC 2017, CC 2018, CC 2019, and the yearly 2020 through 2025 builds. That wide compatibility means the plugin fits both older projects still on legacy releases and current pipelines running the latest version.

How many keyframes does Tracker Solver need to solve a 3D position?

Tracker Solver needs a minimum of three keyframes from a 2D layer to solve a 3D position, and adding more keyframes can increase the accuracy of the result. When the active camera moves very little, using more 2D keyframes is recommended to improve the solve. The plugin works on one layer at a time, handling a single solve or unsolve per operation rather than processing multiple layers together.

Does Tracker Solver work with cameras imported from other applications?

Tracker Solver works with any After Effects camera, including cameras imported from third-party applications, so solves can run against the active camera regardless of where its motion and settings originated. There are limits, though: cameras with animated zoom are not supported, and Point of Interest cameras are not supported. It can also work with Mocha data when solving a 3D position from a 2D layer's keyframes.

Is Tracker Solver free to use?

Tracker Solver is listed as free here, so you can add it to your After Effects setup without a listed cost. Licensing terms can change over time, though, so it is worth checking the developer's page on aescripts for the current details before you download. That page also hosts a demo video if you want to see more about the plugin before installing.
