Auto Crop earns its place in the toolfarm library as a native After Effects utility focused on one job: cropping compositions to their content with pixel-perfect accuracy based on the alpha channel of every layer.
Auto Crop is a native After Effects plugin that automatically resizes a composition to match the size of its content. You can crop at the current frame, or have it analyze the entire composition and crop without cutting off any animation. With Auto Crop 3, you can also crop the current comp without it needing to be a pre-comp.
The plugin bases its crops on the alpha channel of every layer in a composition, catching even a single partially visible pixel and including it in the crop dimensions. If a composition contains animation, Auto Crop can examine the full duration to find the smallest possible size without losing detail. When a composition is used across multiple other comps, every instance is adjusted so the new size doesn't affect any visuals. If you move layers outside the composition bounds, you can expand the composition and crop it at the same time.
Rebuilt from the ground up as a native plugin, Auto Crop offers faster speeds, even when cropping several layers at once. Customization options include a layer menu with keyboard shortcuts, an optional script UI panel, and a preferences screen. It runs on After Effects from CS6 through 2025.
