Auto Track Weights earns its place in the blender_extensions library for a focused job: modulating marker weights so solver output stays steadier across gaps and clip edges, while also covering object tracks rather than camera tracks alone.
Auto Track Weights adjusts the influence weight of tracking markers during motion tracking in Blender. By fading marker weights near the edges of tracked regions and across gaps, it reduces abrupt jumps in the reconstructed motion and helps improve solver stability.
You run it from the Movie Clip Editor after selecting some or all tracking markers. The default shortcut is ALT+W, and there is also a Set Track Weights button in the Track tab of the sidebar. Once the operator has run, you can adjust the Falloff Frames in the operator properties.
The add-on is inspired by Sebastian König's Fade Marker Weights, rewritten to work with Blender versions newer than 2.79 and to fix a couple of issues. It improves handling of gaps in tracks, clips with frame offsets, and edge cases at the start and end points of clips, and it also handles object tracks rather than only camera tracks.
Auto Track Weights is best for vFX and motion-tracking artists in Blender who want to fade tracking marker weights near region edges and across gaps for steadier solves.
Auto Track Weights is completely free to download and use.
Auto Track Weights lists compatibility with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer on its extension page. The add-on was rewritten from Sebastian König's Fade Marker Weights to run on Blender versions newer than 2.79 and to fix a couple of issues along the way. Version 0.2.1 added compatibility with slotted animations. If you run an older or unusual build, check the developer's page at github.com/davidm494/blender_addons for the current compatibility details before installing.
Auto Track Weights runs from the Movie Clip Editor: select some or all of your tracking markers, then press the default ALT+W shortcut or click the Set Track Weights button in the Track tab of the sidebar. After the operator runs, you can fine-tune the result by adjusting the Falloff Frames value in the operator properties. As of version 0.2.1 the add-on works on the active track or object, so make sure the track you want to affect is active before running it.
Auto Track Weights handles object tracks in addition to camera tracks, which sets it apart from the Fade Marker Weights addon it was based on. It modulates the influence weight of the selected markers, fading them near the edges of tracked regions and across gaps to reduce abrupt jumps in the reconstructed motion. The 0.2.1 release notes that the operator works on the active track or object, so select and activate the relevant track before you run it.
Auto Track Weights is listed as free here and is distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. Its extension page also notes it requires no special permissions. For the current licensing terms, source code, and any updates, head to the developer's page at github.com/davidm494/blender_addons. You can install it through the Blender Extensions platform, which the developer lists as the preferred method, or download the add-on and install it from disk.
