Why we like it

Earns its place in the superhive library by targeting a specific gap: Blender's raw motion vector passes aren't RSMB-ready, and this node group handles the pixel math to bridge them. It carries a 5-star rating from five reviews.

What is Rsmb Motion Vector Aovs?

RSMB Motion Vector AOVs is a Blender node group for exporting motion vector AOVs to use with Reel Smart Motion Blur. By default, Cycles and EEVEE produce raw motion vector AOVs, or passes, that aren't compatible with RSMB, and this node group converts those raw vectors into a format the plugin can read using the correct pixel math.

The workflow is direct: plug the correct passes into the labelled inputs, set the range slider, and export the node group's AOV output to disk. From there, the exported AOV works with RSMB inside After Effects, Nuke, Blackmagic Fusion, or any other host that supports the plugin, where the motion blur is added.

Version 1.03 added an installable node for Blackmagic Fusion that converts motion vectors directly within Fusion, supplied as a Fusion macro .settings file and an inspectable project file, along with a fix for floating point rounding errors that produced non-zero pixel values on static geometry. It runs across Blender versions from 2.8 through 4.2 and is released under the GPL license.

Who is Rsmb Motion Vector Aovs best for?

Rsmb Motion Vector Aovs is best for blender artists who render in Cycles or EEVEE and want to add motion blur with Reel Smart Motion Blur in compositing software.

How much does Rsmb Motion Vector Aovs cost?

Rsmb Motion Vector Aovs is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Which Blender versions does RSMB Motion Vector AOVs support?

RSMB Motion Vector AOVs supports a wide span of releases, running on Blender versions from 2.8 through 4.2, including 2.81, 2.82, 2.83, 2.9, 2.91, 2.92, 2.93, 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6, 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2. That range covers both older projects and current pipelines, so you can reach for the same node group across the Blender versions you already work in. The add-on is released under the GPL license.

Does RSMB Motion Vector AOVs work with After Effects and Nuke?

RSMB Motion Vector AOVs is built to work alongside Reel Smart Motion Blur in external compositing software, including After Effects, Nuke, Blackmagic Fusion, or any other host that supports the plugin. You export the node group's AOV output to disk from Blender, then bring that AOV into your compositing tool and apply RSMB there. The motion blur is added in the compositor rather than in Blender itself.

Why aren't Blender's motion vector passes compatible with RSMB by default?

RSMB Motion Vector AOVs exists because Cycles and EEVEE create raw motion vector AOVs, or passes, that aren't compatible with Reel Smart Motion Blur out of the box. The node group solves this by converting those raw vectors into a format RSMB can read, using the correct pixel math. You plug the correct passes into the labelled inputs, set the range slider, and export the result for use with the plugin.

What did version 1.03 add for Blackmagic Fusion?

RSMB Motion Vector AOVs version 1.03, dated 23 April 2024, added an installable node for Blackmagic Fusion that converts motion vectors directly within Fusion. It ships as a Fusion macro .settings file along with an inspectable project file. The same update included a bug fix that adds logic for correcting floating point rounding errors, such as non-zero pixel values appearing on static geometry.

Is RSMB Motion Vector AOVs free?

RSMB Motion Vector AOVs is listed as free in this catalog, and it's released under the GPL license. For current licensing terms and any conditions attached to distribution or reuse, check the developer's page. Keep in mind the node group is for preparing motion vector AOVs in Blender, while Reel Smart Motion Blur itself is a separate plugin you use in your compositing software.
