AutoCollapse earns its place in the aescripts library by turning the per-layer Collapse Transformations toggle into a single pass that reaches nested precomps and locked layers, with a report on what changed.
AutoCollapse applies Collapse Transformations across the layers in an After Effects project with a single click, reaching regular layers, precomps, layers inside nested compositions, and locked layers. It's built to help retain crisp quality and prevent pixelation of vectors in complex projects.
Checkboxes let you decide which layer types are affected. Enable the categories you want, click the AutoCollapse button, and the option is applied to every qualified layer in the main comp. You can also select layers or precomps manually, or lock specific layers and disable the Include Locked checkbox to skip them.
After each run, the script reports how many layers were updated, how many already had Collapse enabled, how many don't support the feature, and further details about the rest. A Help button opens a window with usage tips, common-issue solutions, an update check, and a tutorial video. The interface can run full-size or be minimized to a small toggle button.
AutoCollapse is best for applying Collapse Transformations across large, deeply nested After Effects projects while keeping vectors crisp and preventing pixelation.
AutoCollapse is completely free to download and use.
AutoCollapse is compatible with After Effects 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, and 2020. On any of these versions you can open your main comp, enable the checkboxes for the layer types you want, and click the AutoCollapse button to apply Collapse Transformations across qualifying layers, including those inside nested precomps and locked layers. For details on the current release, check the developer's page.
AutoCollapse is listed as free in this catalog, so there's no charge to add it to your After Effects setup. Licensing terms can change over time, so it's worth checking the developer's page for current details before you download. Once installed, the script runs from its own interface, where you pick layer types with checkboxes and apply Collapse Transformations in a single click.
AutoCollapse can leave specific layers untouched. Lock the layers you don't want changed, then disable the Include Locked checkbox before clicking the AutoCollapse button, and those locked layers will be ignored. This sits alongside its main behaviour, where enabling the Locked option lets the script apply Collapse Transformations even to locked layers. You can also select layers or precomps manually and activate only the checkbox for that layer type.
AutoCollapse reaches layers inside nested compositions, not just those in the main comp. With the relevant checkboxes enabled, one click applies Collapse Transformations to regular layers, precomps, layers within nested compositions, and locked layers across a complex project. After it runs, the script reports how many layers were updated, how many already had Collapse enabled, how many don't support the feature, and additional details about the rest.
