Why we like it

Baseplace pairs a set of 24 heightmaps with weight-paint erasing and modifier controls, all packaged as a GPL-licensed Blender Extension.

What is Baseplace?

Baseplace is an add-on for Blender built around mesh displacement. It ships with 24 heightmaps that you apply to displace base meshes.

Control is available through adjustable modifiers, so you can tune the displacement on the mesh. If part of the displaced result isn't wanted, you can erase those sections in weight paint mode rather than reworking the whole model. Documentation is included with the add-on.

Distributed as a Blender Extension under the GPL license, Baseplace supports Blender versions 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2. A demo video is available for anyone who wants a closer look before adding it to their workflow.

Who is Baseplace best for?

Baseplace is best for blender artists working with mesh displacement from heightmaps.

How much does Baseplace cost?

Baseplace is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Which Blender versions does Baseplace support?

Baseplace lists compatibility with Blender 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2. It is distributed as a Blender Extension of the add-on type and is marked as Extension-compatible. If you are running one of these versions, you should be able to install and use it. For any versions outside this range, check the developer's page for the latest compatibility details before installing, since compatibility can change with newer Blender releases.

How does Baseplace let me remove unwanted displacement?

Baseplace lets you erase displaced sections in weight paint mode. After applying displacement to a base mesh using its heightmaps, you can go into weight paint mode to remove parts of the displacement you don't want, instead of redoing the whole mesh. The add-on also provides adjustable modifiers so you can control the displacement result. Included documentation covers how to work with these features.

What license is Baseplace released under?

Baseplace is released under the GPL license and is provided as a Blender Extension of the add-on type. This card lists it as free, so refer to the developer's page for current licensing and any pricing details before you download. The listing also includes documentation with the add-on, which is useful for understanding setup and how the displacement tools are meant to be used.
