Why we like it

Anubis stands out for pulling export tasks — naming tokens, dynamic folders, background render, and compression with editable quality settings — into one panel across After Effects and Premiere Pro. Recent updates focus on install reliability and Apple silicon fixes.

What is Battle Axe Anubis?

Battle Axe Anubis is an export and rendering panel from Battle Axe for After Effects and Premiere Pro. It brings file output tasks together in one place, with naming tokens and dynamic folder creation driven by the file name string, plus background rendering and a Send to App option.

For compression, Anubis includes user-editable quality settings, resize-to-width, and a progress footer during the process. After Effects users get multi-comp export, and all output modules are supported when not compressing. In Premiere Pro, an export preset selector lets you choose custom EPRs. A metadata property stores the path to the project file, visible in Bridge, and the panel shows a version update notification.

Anubis is compatible with After Effects, Photoshop, Animate and Premiere Pro from CC2019 onward, though Photoshop 2025 and later can no longer run it; downgrading to Photoshop 2024 keeps it working there. Recent updates signed the MacOS FFMpeg binary for a more reliable install and fixed input fields on Apple silicon. A demo video is available.

Frequently asked questions

Does Battle Axe Anubis run in Photoshop 2025?

Battle Axe Anubis no longer runs in Photoshop 2025 and later, because those versions can't run ZXP extensions, even in Rosetta mode. To keep using it in Photoshop, the developer recommends downgrading to Photoshop 2024. Anubis still runs in After Effects, Animate and Premiere Pro. If Photoshop support matters for your setup, factor that limitation in before installing, and check the developer's page for the latest word on which hosts are supported.

What host applications does Battle Axe Anubis support?

Battle Axe Anubis is compatible with After Effects, Photoshop, Animate and Premiere Pro, from the CC2019 release onward. Some features are tied to specific hosts: multi-comp export applies to After Effects, while the export preset selector is a Premiere Pro feature. Note the exception for Photoshop 2025 and later, which can no longer run the extension. For details tied to your exact host build, the developer's page is the best reference.

Does Battle Axe Anubis work on Apple silicon Macs?

Battle Axe Anubis addressed Apple silicon issues in its 1.1.7 update, which fixed the file name entry field and the license key entry field failing to respond on Apple silicon machines. A later change also signed the MacOS FFMpeg binary for a more reliable install. If you're on an Apple silicon Mac, running a current version is worth doing to pick up those fixes. Check the developer's page for the most recent build.

Is Battle Axe Anubis free?

Battle Axe Anubis is listed as free in this catalog. The plugin does use a license key — the changelog mentions a license key entry field and updates to its license authentication system — so licensing terms may apply through the developer. For current pricing, license options and how to obtain a key, check Battle Axe's own page, since those details can change over time.
