ExpressionUniversalizer 4 earns its place in the aescripts library for a specific, recurring problem: expressions that break when a project opens in a different language version of After Effects. The C++ parsing engine and batch processing make it practical to fix many projects at once.
ExpressionUniversalizer 4 converts the expressions in After Effects projects so they stay compatible with After Effects running in any language. If a project moves between language versions of the application, the plugin rewrites its expressions to match.
This release uses an all-new C++ based expressions parsing engine that is about 10-20% faster and more accurate. It supports all of After Effects' native languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Chinese, and it handles Data layer references such as JSON and CSV.
Batch processing runs the conversion across multiple projects. Batch options include matching text in the project name, renaming with a suffix, prefix or replace mode, suppressing alerts and errors, adding an "Expressions Universalized" tag, removing disabled expressions during the scan, and setting where the logfile is saved. Version 4.3.5 is compatible with After Effects releases from CC 2015 through 2026.

ExpressionUniversalizer 4 skips Duik expressions by default, since Duik expressions do not need to be universalized and some are large enough to crash After Effects during processing. A preference lets you process Duik expressions anyway if you need to. This behaviour was added in version 4.3.1. For other expression types, the plugin also supports Data layer references such as JSON and CSV alongside standard project expressions.
