Calc AE earns its place in the aescripts library as a focused utility that keeps timecode math within After Effects and pulls the comp framerate automatically.
Calc AE brings timecode calculations directly into Adobe After Effects, so the work happens without leaving the application. It automatically loads the comp framerate to ensure accurate results, and you can enter timecode manually or insert common values using its Timecode Assist Tools.
The panel is built around this single task: entering, calculating, and working with timecode values. As of version 1.0.2, holding Shift while calculating opens settings and lets you toggle the math operations row on or off, with the layout updating after a restart of Calc AE.
Calc AE is compatible with a broad range of After Effects releases, from CC 2019 through the 2026 version. A demo video is available for those who want to see the panel before installing.
Calc AE is best for after Effects users who need to make timecode calculations without switching to a separate tool.
Calc AE is completely free to download and use.
Calc AE is compatible with a wide span of After Effects releases, covering the 2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021 and 2020 versions as well as CC 2019. That range means most current and several older installations are covered without needing to upgrade the host application. If you run one of these versions, Calc AE should load as a panel inside your existing setup. For the latest compatibility details, check the developer's page before installing.
Calc AE automatically loads the comp framerate, which is what keeps its timecode calculations accurate. Rather than requiring you to enter or confirm the frame rate by hand, the tool reads it from the composition you are working in. From there you can enter timecode manually or insert common timecode values using the Timecode Assist Tools built into the panel. This design keeps the calculation tied to the actual comp settings while you work in After Effects.
Calc AE version 1.0.2, released on October 9, 2025, added a Shift + Calculate action that opens settings and allows the math operations row to be toggled on or off. Restarting Calc AE updates the layout after the change is made. Earlier updates include version 1.0.1 from February 2025, which fixed an error accessing the help docs on Mac, and the initial 1.0 release in January 2025. The developer's changelog lists the full history.
Calc AE is listed as free in this catalog. Because licensing terms can change over time, the developer's page on aescripts is the best place to confirm the current details before you download and install the panel. That page also carries the version history and compatibility information, so it is worth a look alongside the free listing here for anyone planning to add Calc AE to their After Effects workflow.
