Snapshot FX earns its place in the aescripts library for combining snapshot capture with search, tagging, and filtering tools for managing effect states.
Snapshot FX lets you capture snapshots of effect stacks in After Effects and move between different states quickly. You can apply an entire snapshot or update only user-selected components, making it possible to iterate on ideas without rebuilding effect setups each time.
Management tools include search, list filtering, tagging, and a directory jump-list, so you can build a library or keep project-specific settings on hand. Layers are linked to effects using markers placed invisibly at the layer inpoint or at the CTI, and renaming no longer breaks those links. The FX list can be sorted by alpha, effect name, timestamp, layer name, and comp name.
Recent updates have added Boolean search with NOT support for the FX Manager, scoped searches across all data, tags, effects, layers, or comps, custom delimiters, and display preferences for choosing which components of a snapshot name appear. Snapshot FX is compatible with After Effects 2026, 2025, and 2024.

Snapshot FX can apply an entire snapshot or update only user-selected components, so you are not limited to restoring a full effect stack every time. This selective apply behaviour was refined in version 1.07, released September 19, 2025, which fixed selective apply. The approach supports fast idea iteration by letting you swap in specific parts of a saved state rather than the whole thing, which is useful when you are comparing variations across effects on a layer or comp.
Snapshot FX links effects to layers using markers, which can be placed invisibly at the layer inpoint or at the CTI. This method was introduced in version 1.05, and with it renaming layers no longer breaks the links. The same update lets you sort the FX list by alpha, effect name, timestamp, layer name, and comp name for organising your snapshots, so the connections stay intact even as you rename layers while building out a project.
