ColorSwap earns its place in the aescripts library by putting color search-and-replace across a composition, a selection, or a whole project into one script, with keyframed colors covered as of version 1.1.
ColorSwap is a color search-and-replace script for After Effects, developed by Jeroen Krielaars. It finds a color and replaces it with another within the scope you set.
That scope can be a single composition, your current selection, or your entire project, so a swap can stay local or reach across everything you are working on. The tool arrived as an initial release in November 2022, and version 1.1, from February 2023, added support for keyframed colors — extending the replace to animated color values alongside fixed ones.
ColorSwap is compatible with a broad span of After Effects versions, covering 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. It is listed here as free, so check the developer's page for current licensing details. A demo video is also available.
ColorSwap is best for after Effects users who need to find and replace colors across a composition, a selection, or a whole project, including keyframed color values.
ColorSwap is completely free to download and use.
ColorSwap lists compatibility with After Effects 2026, along with 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021 and 2020, so it covers a wide span of recent releases. If you are on any of those versions, the script is designed to run in your setup. For anything outside that range, or to confirm the current compatibility list before installing, check the developer's page, since supported versions can change as After Effects itself is updated.
ColorSwap added support for keyframed colors in version 1.1, released in February 2023. That means the search-and-replace covers animated color values, not only static ones, so colors that change over time are included in a swap. The initial 1.0 release, from November 2022, handled color replacement without this feature. If keyframed color support matters for your work, version 1.1 or later is the one to use, and the developer's page lists the current release.
ColorSwap lets you set the scope of a color swap in three ways: a single composition, your current selection, or the entire project. Running it project-wide applies the search-and-replace across everything at once, while the narrower options keep changes local to one comp or your current selection. This gives you control over how far a color change reaches before you run it. The scope choice is part of how the script works in every supported After Effects version.
ColorSwap is listed here as free, so you can add it to your After Effects setup without a purchase. Licensing terms on the developer's own page can differ or change over time, so it is worth checking there for the current details before you rely on it in a project. As a script for After Effects 2020 through 2026, it fits into a range of recent versions once installed.
