Earns its place in the superhive catalog by covering the full displacement baking workflow, from organizing high and low mesh pairs to generating scale-correct maps with an adjustable mid-value.
Displacement Baker is a Blender add-on from hodgson3d for creating displacement maps through raycast baking. Rather than relying on the interpolated subdivision used by Blender's default Multiresolution baker, which can produce artifacts on sharp edges as well as overlapping and pinched geometry, it projects detail from the high-resolution mesh directly onto the low-resolution mesh for more accurate results.
The add-on automates the baking workflow, removing the setup and manual steps usually needed to create displacement maps in Blender. It generates scale-correct displacement maps, so a displacement strength of 1 reproduces the original high-resolution sculpt without manual adjustment. You can also set the displacement mid-value during baking, a control not present in Blender's native workflow, for greater flexibility across rendering pipelines.
Distributed under the GPL license and compatible with Blender 5.1, it handles the displacement baking process end to end, from organizing mesh pairs to storing bakes. A demo video is available for a closer look.
Displacement Baker - Industry Standard Displacement is best for blender artists baking displacement maps from high-resolution sculpts onto low-resolution meshes.
Displacement Baker - Industry Standard Displacement is completely free to download and use.
Displacement Baker is listed as compatible with Blender 5.1 and is distributed as a Blender add-on that is marked Blender Extension compatible. It's released under the GPL license. If you're on a different Blender version, check the developer's page to confirm support before installing, since Blender 5.1 is the version noted here. Being an add-on, it works within Blender to handle the displacement baking steps rather than as a separate program.
Displacement Baker uses raycast baking, which projects detail from the high-resolution mesh directly onto the low-resolution mesh. Blender's default Multiresolution baker instead relies on interpolated subdivision, which can produce artifacts on sharp edges as well as overlapping and pinched geometry. By raycasting, the add-on aims for more accurate and reliable results. It also generates scale-correct displacement maps, so a displacement strength of 1 reproduces the original high-resolution sculpt without manual adjustment, and it lets you set the displacement mid-value during baking, a control not offered in Blender's native workflow.
Displacement Baker auto-detects which UDIM tiles are in use and creates the corresponding images when you hit Bake. Its image controls let you set the image size, alpha type, margin size in pixels, and mid value. You can also choose to store the baked texture inside Blender, so you can quickly assign and test your bakes. On the mesh side, it also lets you set mesh and UV boundary smoothing, and you can switch between fast and slow sampling methods.
Displacement Baker is listed as free in this catalog. For current licensing and any purchase terms, check the developer's page on superhive, since pricing can change over time. The add-on itself is distributed under the GPL license and is marked as a Dev Fund contributor. It automates the displacement baking workflow, removing much of the setup and manual steps usually needed to create displacement maps in Blender, and a demo video is available if you want the full breakdown first.
