Draw A Mesh stands out in the superhive library for its sketch-first approach, turning annotate-pencil lines and splines straight into 3D models with per-spline twist control.
Draw A Mesh is a Blender add-on from Shuhan for building 3D models from drawn lines. The annotate pencil can be used to create a model, and you can draw several lines and create the model in one go. Lines can be erased, re-drawn and re-modelled, and different splines can be twisted at different angles.
The twist angle depends on the distance between a curve's points, so keep angles small when using the annotate method, where points sit close together. After changing a spline's twist angle, click the twist button to activate the operation. On Blender versions below 3.4, the curve may be resampled when a tube model is tapered, in which case resolution u can be adjusted.
Version 1.1 adds a circular array whose center can be the 3D cursor or the model itself, plus a mirror option controlled through "Mirror_Center". Models can be removed or re-modified by selecting the related curve within the same collection. It supports Blender 3.0 and newer, is licensed under GPL, and a demo video is available.
Draw A Mesh is best for blender users who want to generate 3D models directly from drawn lines and splines.
Draw A Mesh is completely free to download and use.
Draw A Mesh runs on Blender 3.0 and newer, with the listed builds covering 3.0 through 4.4. Version 1.0 required Blender 3.2 or newer, while version 1.1 lowered that to 3.0 or newer. On Blender versions below 3.4, the curve may be resampled when a tube model is tapered; if that happens, you can adjust resolution u to your desired value to correct it.
Draw A Mesh lets you twist different splines at different angles. After you change a spline's twist angle, click the twist button to activate the operation. The twist angle depends on the distance between the curve's points, so avoid large angles when using the annotate method, because those points sit very close together. Keeping the angle modest in that case helps avoid unexpected results.
Draw A Mesh supports reworking your geometry after the fact. Lines can be erased, re-drawn and re-modelled at any point. From version 1.1, a model can also be removed or re-modified by selecting the related curve that sits in the same collection: switch the drawing method to curve, then select the hidden curve. This keeps each generated model tied to an editable source you can return to.
Draw A Mesh is listed as free in this catalog, and it is distributed under the GPL license. The GPL generally allows use, modification and redistribution under its terms. For current licensing details, check the developer's page directly. The add-on comes from Shuhan and has a demo video available if you want to see more before deciding whether it fits your Blender workflow.
