Extendo earns its place in the aescripts library as an edge extension plugin for After Effects, and recent updates have added Film Grain matching, a Knockout Mode and OFX support for DaVinci Resolve. Version 1.3.1 is current, and a demo video is available.
Extendo is billed as the first and only edge extension plugin for After Effects, built by Eric at VFX Tools. It runs in After Effects 2026, 2025 and 2024, and OFX support added in a later update brings it to DaVinci Resolve as well.
The plugin extends the edges of footage and includes a Film Grain option for the extended area, so you can match the grain from the original footage. A Knockout Mode outputs only the extended part, letting you add or match grain to that area on its own. Erosion is adjustable, with mask support and a Keep Original Alpha option, and GPU acceleration runs through Mercury GPU (enabled in File > Project Settings); in software mode it runs faster at high Erosion values.
At version 1.3.1, the most recent updates cover a CPU rendering fix and the addition of Film Grain matching. Extendo sits in the VFX Tools category and a demo video is available.
Extendo is best for after Effects and DaVinci Resolve artists who need to extend the edges of footage and match grain across the extended area.
Extendo is completely free to download and use.
Extendo lists compatibility with After Effects 2026, 2025 and 2024, so any of those releases is supported. The plugin sits in the VFX Tools category, having moved there from the Keying folder in an earlier update. For host versions outside that range, check the developer's page before installing, since support beyond the listed releases isn't confirmed here. It also gained OFX support in a later update, which extends its reach to DaVinci Resolve.
Extendo started as an After Effects plugin and added OFX support in version 1.2.1, released in March 2026. That OFX build lets it run in DaVinci Resolve alongside After Effects. The core edge extension function, plus features like Film Grain matching and Knockout Mode, carry across, though for the specifics of the Resolve setup it's best to check the developer's page. Its listed After Effects compatibility covers versions 2026, 2025 and 2024.
Extendo includes GPU acceleration, added in version 1.1, which runs through Mercury GPU and is described as much faster. To use it, turn on Mercury GPU under File > Project Settings in After Effects. Extendo also runs in software mode, which is faster at high Erosion values. Earlier updates addressed GPU-related fixes and memory leaks, so keeping the plugin current is sensible if you rely on the GPU path.
Extendo is listed as free in this catalog, so there's no price shown here. For current licensing terms and to download the plugin, head to the developer's page. A couple of earlier updates dealt with licensing behaviour: version 1.2.2 fixed a license that wouldn't persist between sessions, and 1.2.3 addressed a licensing bug that could require relicensing when the plugin loads. Those are resolved in current versions, but the developer's page is the place to confirm licensing details.
