Why we like it

Extile stands out in the Superhive library for bringing a non-repetitive tiling approach from Unreal Engine to Blender, packaged as two one-click master materials with modular nodes for further customization.

What is Extile?

Extile is a set of ready-made master materials created with shader nodes that eliminate repetitiveness on tiling textures. It groups mathematical functions into two master materials that work on geometric patterned textures such as tiles, bricks and flooring, as well as organic textures like ground. Everything comes set up out of the box and is added with a single click.

You import your own textures from any source, including Megascans, then adjust a few basic parameters to remove tiling. Add the shader through SHIFT + A or the Add Shader option in the left toolbox menu, define your texture, adjust the random seed, and tweak rows or columns after randomization. Organic textures support full randomization. Because it is built with modular group nodes, you can use them to construct your own shader tree and experiment by adding custom nodes you create.

Extile was initially released for Unreal Engine and is now available for Blender. It ships under the GPL license and includes documentation.

Who is Extile best for?

Extile is best for environment art and architectural visualization work that needs repetition removed from tiling textures.

How much does Extile cost?

Extile is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

What Blender versions does Extile support?

Extile lists support for Blender 2.8, 2.81, 2.82, 2.83, 2.9, 2.91, 2.92, 2.93 and 3.0, so it covers the 2.8 series through 3.0. If you are on a version within that range, it should fit your setup. For newer Blender releases beyond 3.0, compatibility is not stated here, so it is worth checking the developer's page for the latest details before relying on it in a production project.

How do I add Extile to my scene in Blender?

Extile is added from within Blender using SHIFT + A or the Add Shader option in the left toolbox menu. Once added, you define your texture, adjust the random seed to break up repetition, then tweak the number of rows or columns after randomization. Organic textures support full randomization. Because everything comes set up out of the box, getting a material in place takes a single click, after which you adjust a few basic parameters to remove the tiling.

Does Extile work with Megascans textures?

Extile lets you import your own textures from any source, including Megascans, so assets from that library work directly. After importing, you adjust some basic parameters to remove tiling, then define the texture and set the random seed. The two master materials handle both geometric patterned textures such as tiles, bricks and flooring and organic textures like ground, so imported assets work regardless of surface type.

Is Extile free to download here?

Extile is listed as free in this catalog, so there is no charge to add it from here. It ships under the GPL license, which the developer states directly. Licensing terms can change over time, so for the current arrangement and any usage conditions it is best to check the developer's page before you build it into commercial work. The listing also includes documentation to help you get started once you have it in place.

Can Extile handle organic textures like ground?

Extile handles organic style textures such as ground alongside geometric patterned textures like tiles, bricks and flooring. Organic textures support full randomization, and across textures you define the texture, adjust the random seed, and change rows or columns after randomization. Both types run through the two master materials built from grouped mathematical functions, so a single toolset covers both patterned and organic surfaces within your Blender project.
