Facemaps earns a place in the Superhive library for reviving and extending Blender's face map workflow, with conversion options that tie into Materials, Vertex Weights, and Face Sets.
Facemaps is a Blender add-on from Easy Team that focuses on face maps — named face selections you can define and quickly reselect while working in Edit Mode. It's aimed at organizing complex meshes and speeding up selection-heavy tasks. You create a face map by selecting faces on your mesh and clicking the "+" button in the add-on panel, with no complex setup required.
Beyond creation, the add-on covers a range of operations. Face maps can overlap and share the same faces, unlike older Blender versions. Symmetry tools let you select faces on one side and mirror them to the opposite side, and a merge function combines multiple face maps into one. An Object Mode overlay lets you view and manage face maps outside Edit Mode via a customizable toggle. Import and export support handles sharing, collaboration, and backups across projects.
Face maps can be converted into Materials, Vertex Weights, or Face Sets for integration with Blender's broader toolset. Version 1.1 adds Selective Texture Paint, allowing face maps to act as masks for selective painting. The add-on is applicable to character rigging, UV optimization, and preparing assets for games and animation.
Facemaps is best for blender artists working on character rigging, UV optimization, and preparing assets for games and animation.
Facemaps is completely free to download and use.
Facemaps is compatible with Blender 4.5 and later, listed for the 4.5 to 5.0 range. It is a Blender add-on and is marked as Blender Extension compatible. The add-on works in Edit Mode for creating and selecting face maps, and also provides an Object Mode overlay so you can view and manage them without switching modes. Cycles and Eevee are the render engines noted for the product. If you run an older Blender release, check the developer's page before installing.
Facemaps can convert face maps into Materials, Vertex Weights, or Face Sets, which opens integration with Blender's broader toolset for tasks like sculpting. This lets a single set of face selections carry over into other parts of your pipeline rather than being rebuilt manually. Version 1.1 also adds Selective Texture Paint, letting you use face maps as masks for selective painting. Between conversion and masking, the add-on connects face selections to modeling, rigging, sculpting, and painting work inside Blender.
Facemaps includes symmetry tools that let you select faces on one side of a mesh, such as an ear on a head model, and automatically mirror them to create the opposite side with matching symmetry. It also supports merging multiple face maps into one for organization. On top of this, face maps can overlap and share the same faces, which differs from older Blender versions and gives more flexibility when defining selections on complex meshes.
Facemaps is listed as free in this catalog, and it is released under the GPL license. For current licensing terms and any purchase details, check the developer's page directly, since availability and terms can change over time. The add-on is published by Easy Team, who are noted as a Blender Development Fund contributor. A demo video is also available if you want to see the add-on before installing.
