FBG earns its place in the superhive library for covering the full path from a generated blockout to baked output, all built directly in-scene without importing a premade base mesh. Worth knowing: animated blockouts run through FBG's own pose system, so live playback can be heavier than a native Blender rig.
Figure Blockout Generator (FBG) is a Blender add-on for generating proportioned human blockout figures. Rather than importing a premade base mesh, it builds the figure directly in your scene, generating the full blockout with one button. The result is made of normal Blender mesh objects that you can select, edit, or use like any other mesh data. Generation offers three geometry modes and two independent landmark systems, and everything lands in its own organized blockout collection.
From that starting point, you shape the build by setting the height, choosing the gender base, and selecting the proportion type. Structure controls handle the body layout such as width relationships, limb lengths, and segment distribution, while Volume controls define visual mass on top. Built around the Cranial Unit proportion method, proportion changes update the generated figure live. Posing is property-driven from the addon panel, with no viewport rig to manage.
For motion, Pose Combos capture Start and End poses interpolated through a single Blend slider, with an optional Mid pose for three-point interpolation. When you are ready to move on, Bake to Rig creates a standard Blender armature and writes the motion onto it as an Action.
Figure Blockout Generator is best for building proportioned human blockout figures in Blender as a modeling base, and taking them further into posing, animation, and baked armature output for rigging handoff.
Figure Blockout Generator is completely free to download and use.
Figure Blockout Generator does not import a premade base mesh. Instead, it builds the figure directly in your scene, generating the full blockout with a single button rather than placing every primitive by hand. The result is made of normal Blender mesh objects, so from the moment it is generated you can select those objects, edit them, or use them like any other mesh data in the scene. The blockout is created into its own organized collection, and generation offers three geometry modes along with two independent landmark systems.
Figure Blockout Generator poses the figure without a visible armature rig. The pose controls live in the addon panel, where named properties drive the generated figure directly. Behind those controls, FBG solves the pose from the blockout's current build, so the pose system stays connected to the figure you shaped. There are no viewport rig controls to manage, and the controls are organized for posing the full figure through custom pose mechanisms built specifically for FBG. The documentation includes dedicated pages and examples for the full posing system.
Figure Blockout Generator can send the blockout downstream through Bake to Rig. It creates a standard Blender armature and writes the evaluated motion onto it as an Action. The rig is built from the figure you actually shaped, not from a fixed template, so if you change the proportions and then bake, the generated armature follows that structure. It includes helper bones for better deformation out of the box, and you can set your own custom rest pose using a combo preset. It is built for playback and binding rather than as a full animator control rig.
Figure Blockout Generator lets you keep several blockouts in the same scene, but only one can be active and open for editing at a time. Finalizing a blockout puts it aside, and you can bring it back later for more changes. One detail worth noting: animated blockouts are evaluated through FBG's own pose system, so live playback can be heavier than a native Blender rig.
Figure Blockout Generator is listed as free in this catalog. For current licensing terms and any conditions attached to its use, check the developer's page from Makatopia. The add-on covers a full workflow across five stages, from generating the blockout foundation to shaping proportions, posing, animating with Pose Combos, and baking to a standard armature, and it ships with documentation that includes dedicated pages and examples for the posing system.
