FumeFX to VrayVolumeGrid miniscript, also called FFX2VrayVG, is a small script by David Aviles for 3ds Max. It creates one or more VrayVolumeGrids from two or more selected FumeFX grids that have already been simulated. The script aligns each created VrayVolumeGrid to its FumeFX counterpart, renames them accordingly, and loads the cache files from the master FumeFX grids.
The tool fits a workflow where FumeFX grids are simulated first and then handled once the cache files are ready. It is aimed at rendering already simmed, compatible VDB FumeFX cache in V-Ray, covering the align, rename and repath steps in that process.
Running it is direct: select all the already simmed FumeFX grids, then run the script. There is no interface, macro or button, so it is a raw script you execute yourself. It is compatible with 3ds Max 2016 and up, and the developer notes it can be shared and altered as needed.
