Why we like it

GrabDoc earns a spot in the superhive library for keeping baking inside Blender, with real-time map previews across three render engines and an optional handoff to Marmoset Toolbag when you want it.

What is Grabdoc?

GrabDoc is an add-on for Blender 4.2-5.0+ that bakes trim sheets and tileable texture maps. After installation, you run its one-click scene setup and then start modeling. The add-on adds a camera object and previews your rendered texture maps in real time through custom shaders in Workbench, EEVEE, and Cycles.

Once the preview looks the way you want, you can bake all maps using the default baker or route the process through Marmoset Toolbag's baker for the best results. Common map types associated with the tool include normal, height, curvature, ambient occlusion, roughness, metalness, and albedo.

GrabDoc is available under GPL licensing on GitHub, and version 2.0.1 brought 5.0 compatibility and bug fixing. It supports Blender 4.2 and up; it may run on other versions, but that isn't guaranteed. Support is available by email or through the project's Discord server. A demo video is also available.

Who is Grabdoc best for?

Grabdoc is best for blender artists baking trim sheets and tileable texture maps who want to preview their maps in real time before committing to a bake.

How much does Grabdoc cost?

Grabdoc is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Which Blender versions does GrabDoc support?

GrabDoc supports Blender 4.2 and up, covering the 4.2 to 5.0+ range. The developer notes it may work on other versions, though support is not guaranteed there. Version 2.0.1 added 5.0 compatibility along with bug fixing. If you run into problems with any of the tools, you can reach the developer by email or through the project's Discord server for support.

Can GrabDoc bake with Marmoset Toolbag?

GrabDoc lets you bake all your maps once you're happy with the preview. You can use its default baker, or route the work through Marmoset Toolbag's baker for the best results, according to the developer. The add-on first gives you a camera object and real-time previews of your rendered texture maps, so you can check the output before committing to a bake.

Which render engines does GrabDoc preview maps in?

GrabDoc previews your rendered texture maps in real time using custom shaders in Workbench, EEVEE, and Cycles. It sets up a camera object during the one-click scene setup, so you can start modeling and watch the maps update as you go. When the result looks right, you bake the maps with the default baker or with Marmoset Toolbag's baker. The preview works before any bake happens.

Is GrabDoc free?

GrabDoc is listed as free here in the catalog. It's distributed under GPL licensing and is available on GitHub, so for the current terms and any updates it's best to check the developer's page directly. The add-on covers baking trim sheets and tileable texture maps in Blender, with previews across Workbench, EEVEE, and Cycles before you commit to a final bake.
