Why we like it

Image Generator 2 earns its place in the superhive library by bringing AI product-image generation into Blender's viewport, with a v2.1 material-first workflow built around turning clay renders into photoreal shots.

What is Image Generator 2?

Image Generator 2 works from Blender's 3D Viewport N-panel to convert grey clay renders into photoreal product shots, concept directions, masked edits, and consistent multi-angle image sets. Version 2.1 uses a material-first prompt engine that recognizes the product, assigns PBR-style materials to each visible part, then adds realistic studio lighting, treating grey clay as unpainted material rather than a final color.

Two generation modes are available. Edit Render uses the current Render Result as the source for AI editing, with preservation controls that can guide the provider to keep camera, lighting, shape, material, logos, and label text. Text to Image produces a fresh image from prompt text alone. Keep Maintain Consistency feeds a previous result as reference when you move to a new camera angle, while IMAGINE tracks a render signature covering camera, transform, lens, and resolution and refreshes automatically when any of these change.

Results can appear in a split viewport showing the generated image in an Image Editor, and versions can be upscaled from History or edited within a masked region. The add-on requires Blender 5.0 or newer plus either a Google Gemini or OpenAI API key; provider usage costs are paid directly to the selected provider.

Frequently asked questions

Does Image Generator 2 work with Blender 5.0?

Image Generator 2 requires Blender 5.0 or newer, so it runs on current 5.x builds rather than older releases. It operates from the 3D Viewport N-panel, where you trigger generation and provider actions. Alongside Blender itself, the add-on needs an internet connection because every generation request is sent to your chosen provider, and it only contacts that provider when you start a generation or run an action such as checking an API key. If you are on a version earlier than 5.0, you would need to update Blender first.

Which API key does Image Generator 2 need?

Image Generator 2 needs either a Google Gemini API key or an OpenAI API key, and only the key for the provider you select is required. The add-on purchase does not include provider usage costs; those fees are paid directly to the selected provider. Details like safety filtering, quota, rate limits, latency, model access, and image availability are controlled by that provider rather than the add-on. Because generation runs through these services, a billing-enabled key for your chosen provider is what makes the image features work.

How do I install Image Generator 2 in Blender?

Image Generator 2 ships as a marketplace-ready add-on package built around the image_generator folder with its Blender extension manifest, so you install it as a Blender extension. Once enabled, its preferences show only the API key field for the provider you select, keeping setup focused on the single key you need. Material preservation is not forced on by default in this version, and applying most templates automatically frees the material lock so product prompts can create believable surfaces. The developer's page and included documentation cover the specifics.

Is Image Generator 2 free to use?

Image Generator 2 is listed as free here, though you should check the developer's page for current licensing before relying on that. Keep in mind the add-on itself is separate from provider usage costs: generation runs on a Google Gemini or OpenAI API key, and those usage fees are paid directly to the selected provider, not included with the add-on. Quota, billing, and image availability sit with that provider. For the latest terms and any support questions, refer to Paul Thien Store.
