MegaCitigen earns its place in the Superhive library as a city generator that works from displacement maps and simple line and plane input, letting one artist assemble a crowded, traffic-filled megacity in under an hour once the facade shaders are ready.
MegaCitigen builds large-scale cities in Blender from lines and planes you draw, generating detailed megacities with displacement maps rather than block-by-block construction. With displacement shaders ready for the building facades, a single artist can produce a complete city with crowds and traffic within an hour. You can use the default displacement shaders, shaders from MegaCitigen Asset Packs, or your own.
MegaCitigen Core handles the city generation, while CEL adds sea, desert, and clouds in the sky and animates the Sun and clouds. A single click sets up various animation cameras, and the Import/Export tool brings in custom assets and exports the city for Unreal Engine 5. The MegaCitigen Compositor adds atmospheric haze and generates a batch file for command-line rendering in the background. Automated crowds and traffic setup is available in the Citigen-Ultimate edition.
Cities can be saved as presets to cut hard disk use by almost 99 percent, and the Asset Pack System installs zip packs dropped onto its panel to add or replace default assets. Running it needs at least 16GB of RAM, with larger cities requiring more, and CITIGEN recommends watching the official basic tutorials before starting.
Megacitigen is best for artists creating large-scale megacity shots for films and Unreal Engine 5 game level design in Blender.
Megacitigen is completely free to download and use.
MegaCitigen requires a minimum of 16GB of RAM on a PC or Mac. Larger cities can require more than that minimum, so bigger scenes may need additional memory to run comfortably. CITIGEN also recommends learning a short set of procedures and a few key settings before building, and points users to a few official basic tutorials in the documentation, which take less than an hour to watch. Following that guidance is suggested to avoid frustration when you start generating cities.
MegaCitigen includes a dedicated Import/Export tool that lets you import your own custom assets and export the generated city for Unreal Engine 5. The developer positions the add-on for both film work and Unreal Engine 5 game level design, so the export path supports moving a finished city into a game engine. Cities are built in Blender from your lines and planes and use displacement maps for the building detail before you take them across to UE5.
MegaCitigen installs asset packs through its Asset Pack System, added in version 5.1.0. You drag and drop the packaged zip asset pack onto the Asset Pack Panel inside MegaCitigen to install it. Once installed, the asset packs can add to or replace MegaCitigen's default assets. The developer advises checking the product description before buying to avoid duplicate purchases across packs. Building facades can use the default displacement shaders, shaders from MegaCitigen Asset Packs, or shaders you create yourself.
MegaCitigen offers an Automated Crowds & Traffic Generator that sets up crowds and traffic simulation for you, available in the Citigen-Ultimate edition. After it runs, you might need to adjust the crowds' and traffic's speeds and locations a little. Combined with the core generator, this lets a single artist populate a complete megacity with crowds and traffic within an hour, provided the displacement shaders for the building facades are already prepared.
MegaCitigen is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing and any current terms can change, so check the developer's page for the latest details before you download or use it commercially. The add-on runs in Blender and needs at least 16GB of RAM, and CITIGEN recommends watching the official basic tutorials first. For building assets, you can rely on the default displacement shaders, MegaCitigen Asset Packs, or shaders of your own.
