Why we like it

Odometer earns its place in the aescripts library for combining number, word and glyph counting in one plugin, with GPU acceleration and native Intel and Apple Silicon support.

What is Odometer?

Odometer animates numbers, text and symbols inside After Effects, letting you count anything across three main modes: Numbers, Words and Glyphs. The Numbers mode inherits your easing, while the Text and Glyphs mode adds a full set of Penner easing presets. In-built perspective and feathering are part of the toolset, and the plugin can count all the way up to 9 duotrigintillion, a number with 99 zeroes.

On the technical side, Odometer works with 32bpc color precision and GPU-accelerated motion blur. It is MFR enabled and runs natively on both Intel and Apple Silicon. A GPU is required, with integrated GPUs such as Intel Iris supported.

Version 1.2, released on June 12, 2024, fixed a floating point precision bug for numbers over one billion and added an example .aep template for animating huge numbers. An earlier update introduced five order modifiers — reverse, random, increment, inside out and outside in — and made the spin direction parameter keyframable.

Who is Odometer best for?

Odometer is best for after Effects artists animating numbers, counters, text and glyphs.

How much does Odometer cost?

Frequently asked questions

Which After Effects versions does Odometer support?

Odometer supports a wide range of After Effects releases, from CC 2015 through the 2026 version. That covers CC 2015, CC 2015.3, CC 2017, CC 2018, CC 2019, and the yearly 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026 releases. If you work across multiple After Effects installations, this range makes it usable on both older and current setups. For the definitive list and any newer additions, check the developer's page before installing.

Does Odometer need a GPU?

Odometer requires a GPU to run. It is GPU accelerated and uses that hardware for its motion blur, so a graphics card is a hard requirement rather than optional. Integrated GPUs such as Intel Iris are supported, which means you do not necessarily need a discrete card to use the plugin. The plugin is also MFR enabled and works with 32bpc color precision. For exact hardware details, refer to the developer's page.

Does Odometer run natively on Apple Silicon Macs?

Odometer runs natively on both Intel and Apple Silicon. That means it operates as an Apple Silicon native plugin on newer Macs, as well as on Intel-based systems, without relying on translation layers. It is also MFR enabled and GPU accelerated. Since a GPU is required, note that integrated GPUs such as Intel Iris are supported. For the full set of platform and system requirements, see the developer's page.

Is Odometer free to use?

Odometer is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing terms can change over time, so for the current details on cost and usage rights, check the developer's page on aescripts. The plugin is at version 1.2, last updated on June 12, 2024, which added an example .aep template for animating huge numbers and fixed a floating point precision bug for numbers over one billion.
