pt_ImportSubtitles is a script from Paul Tuersley that imports subtitle files into After Effects and Premiere Pro. It reads Encore, SubRip SRT and WebVTT formats and can place an optional black box behind the text, with options for box size, color, opacity and an absolute vertical position.
The workflow starts by creating a new composition in the correct format for your output. You run the script, choose the subtitle format, click Import Subtitles and select your file, then drag the subtitle layer to the bottom of the comp, using the Title Safe guides if needed. From there you can render with an alpha channel and bring the result into your editing software, or import your video into After Effects under the subtitle layer and render the combined result.
Version 1.73 lists compatibility with After Effects releases from CS4 through 2026. A demo video is available on the developer's page.
