Earns its place for bringing familiar CAD conventions into Blender: command-based drafting, basepoint transforms, and precise snapping, driven with keyboard controls like F8 for orthogonal mode and X/Y/Z axis constraints.
RG CAD Tools adds a command-based drafting and editing workflow to Blender, drawing on conventions familiar from CAD software. You draft with Line and Polyline commands, snap to endpoints, midpoints, intersections and the nearest point on an edge or face, and type exact values when you need them. F8 sets orthogonal mode, F3 toggles snapping, and the X, Y and Z keys constrain input to an axis.
Beyond drawing, it covers transforming, aligning, modifying and measuring geometry. Move, copy and rotate objects from a basepoint; align by vertex pairs or by face with a flip-normal option; and reshape edges with explode, break, fillet, lengthen, extend, trim and edge-intersection tools. Measure the distance between two points or the total length of selected edges and objects, with a persistent on-screen HUD.
The tools live in the N-panel sidebar under an RG CAD tab, organized in collapsible panels. Preferences cover snap symbol color and size, default snap states, and HUD position. RG CAD Tools requires Blender 4.0 or newer and needs no additional dependencies.
Rg Cad Tools is best for architects, product designers, and anyone who demands precision from their 3D workflow.
Rg Cad Tools is completely free to download and use.
RG CAD Tools requires Blender 4.0 or newer and runs with no additional dependencies. Once the add-on zip is installed and enabled through Blender's preferences, the tools activate immediately. You reach them by pressing N in the 3D viewport to open the sidebar and selecting the RG CAD tab, where all commands and settings sit in collapsible panels. If you are on an older Blender release, you would need to update before the add-on will run.
RG CAD Tools installs like a standard Blender add-on. Download the rg_cad_tools.zip file from your purchase confirmation or account page, then open Blender and go to Edit, Preferences, Add-ons. Click Install in the top right, locate and select the downloaded zip, and click Install Add-on. Find RG CAD Tools in the list and tick its checkbox to enable it. The add-on activates immediately, and you access the tools by pressing N in the 3D viewport to open the RG CAD sidebar tab.
RG CAD Tools includes a snap system covering endpoints, midpoints, intersections, and the nearest point on an edge or face. Each snap type has its own on/off toggle, and a global toggle on the F3 key turns snapping on or off during commands. Snap symbol color and size are configurable in preferences, along with default snap type states. The 1.15.28 revision also added curve objects as supported snap targets, extending where the snapping can lock on.
RG CAD Tools is listed as free in this catalog. For current licensing terms and to obtain the download, check RGSoftware's page, since the installation steps reference downloading the rg_cad_tools.zip from a purchase confirmation or account page. After downloading, the add-on installs through Blender's preferences and requires Blender 4.0 or newer with no additional dependencies. Always confirm the latest licensing details on the developer's page before relying on them.
