Listed at rank 198 on toolfarm, Vintage earns its place for emulating three specific early color film processes rather than a single generic vintage treatment, with a normal and quick mode for each.
Sheffield Softworks Vintage recreates the look of early color film techniques by mathematically reproducing the conditions of each original physical process. These processes captured color by passing the image through colored filters and exposing separate images onto black and white film.
The plugin covers three techniques. Technicolor 2 Strip recorded the red and green images, while Multicolor recorded red and blue. Both could reproduce decent skintones, though Multicolor could not reproduce greens and Technicolor 2 Strip had no blue channel. Technicolor 3 Strip recorded red, green, and blue, producing the full technicolor spectrum.
Each of the three processes comes with a normal mode and a quick mode. Quick mode renders faster but does not allow you to tweak the settings. Vintage runs through Noise Industries FxFactory, a free download, and works in After Effects, Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve, as well as Final Cut Pro X and Motion, on Apple Silicon and Intel processors.
