Why we like it

Earns its place in the superhive library by bundling primitive editing and Maya-inspired target merging behind a single hotkey.

What is Smart Mesh Toolkit?

Smart Mesh Toolkit by SUPRA3D brings two modeling add-ons to Blender, both triggered with the Y key in Object or Edit Mode. The Smart Mesh Tool detects when a primitive like a cube, sphere, or cylinder is selected and opens a draggable pop-up panel with parameters specific to that primitive, letting you adjust values such as radius, segments, and depth long after the object was created. For non-primitive meshes, the panel exposes general transforms including location, rotation, and dimensions. All parameters are fully interactive with real-time visual feedback.

The workflow is non-destructive: nothing is permanent until you confirm, and pressing cancel reverts the object to its original state without needing undo. The Target Merge Tool interactively merges vertices in Edit Mode, drawing lines from source vertices to show which will merge. It supports selecting multiple source vertices with Shift + Click, Target and Center merge modes switchable with C, and stitching vertices across two objects in multi-object Edit Mode.

Inspired by the Target Weld tool in Autodesk Maya, the Target Merge Tool brings an industry standard tool to Blender. A free demo for cylinders is available.

Who is Smart Mesh Toolkit best for?

Smart Mesh Toolkit is best for blender artists who model with primitives and merge vertices, and want a Maya-style Target Weld workflow.

How much does Smart Mesh Toolkit cost?

Smart Mesh Toolkit is completely free to download and use.

Key features

  • Smart Mesh Tool detects selected primitives (cube, sphere, cylinder) and opens a pop-up panel with primitive-specific parameters like radius, segments, and depth; non-primitive meshes get location, rotation, and dimensions
  • Non-destructive workflow: changes are not permanent until confirmed, and cancel reverts the object to its original state without undo
  • Target Merge Tool interactively merges vertices in Edit Mode, drawing lines from source vertices to show which will merge
  • Select multiple source vertices with Shift + Click and choose a final destination to merge them
  • Target and Center merge modes, switchable with C while the tool is active
  • Multi-object Edit Mode support for stitching vertices from two objects together, not possible with Blender's default merge operation
  • Standard, Pro, and Studio license options, with Pro and Studio adding a Discord Support Server and early beta and feature updates

Frequently asked questions

How do I activate Smart Mesh Toolkit in Blender?

Smart Mesh Toolkit uses the Y key as its hotkey in both Object and Edit Mode. In Object Mode, select an object and press Y to bring up the Smart Mesh Tool pop-up panel. In Edit Mode, pressing Y starts the Target Merge Tool, where your cursor begins highlighting vertices to select. This single-key access is designed to save time on clicks and avoid hunting through menus, keeping both add-ons one key press away during modeling.

Can Smart Mesh Toolkit merge vertices between two separate objects?

Smart Mesh Toolkit's Target Merge Tool supports multi-object Edit Mode, letting you stitch vertices from two different objects together so they are brought into the same position. This is something not possible with Blender's default merge operation. The tool also offers Target Mode, which merges selected source vertices to the location of the final vertex you select, and Center Mode, which merges all selected vertices at their calculated average position. Switch between the two modes with C while the tool is active.

What licensing options does Smart Mesh Toolkit offer?

Smart Mesh Toolkit comes in three licenses. The Standard License is for individual artists and includes free feature updates. The Pro License is aimed at professional freelancers and adds access to the Discord Support Server along with free early feature and beta updates. The Studio license covers a six-seat studio or commercial house and also includes the Discord Support Server and early updates. This catalog lists the toolkit as free; check the developer's page for current licensing details.

Does editing a primitive with Smart Mesh Toolkit change my work permanently?

Smart Mesh Toolkit follows a non-destructive workflow. You can freely experiment with any parameter in the pop-up panel, and no changes become permanent until you confirm them. If you do not like the result, pressing cancel instantly reverts the operation and your object to its original state, with no undo required. All parameters are fully interactive and give real-time visual feedback, so you can dial in the shape and size while seeing the changes as you make them.
