Sound Planes is a Blender extension by nifi that automates sound placement in the sequencer. It works by using planes to detect motion within user-specified areas of a scene, and when a plane is intersected it automatically adds sounds into the sequencer. The developer notes that this detection runs in a very performant manner.
The add-on reached version 1.0.0 in February 2026, a release the developer describes as stable. It is compatible with Blender 5.0 and newer, and requires no special permissions. Sound Planes is distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later.
Installation follows the standard Blender extension flow: the add-on can be dragged and dropped into Blender, or downloaded and installed from disk. Issue reports and discussion take place on the developer's GitHub Discussions page. As a compact extension, its download size is only 13.1 KB.
