Why we like it

Stands out in the aescripts library for reducing tracking-to-null setup to a single button, with a toggle for parenting behaviour added in version 1.1.0.

What is Track to New Null?

Track to New Null is a single-button panel for After Effects. Press it once, and the panel bakes tracking data onto a brand-new Null layer, then parents that null to the source layer. It reads tracking from both AE Motion Tracker and Mocha AE.

Version 1.1.0 adds a 'Parent to layer' option that is on by default. Turning it off creates a free null with no parent instead. The same release also fixed a crash that occurred with long Mocha AE tracks.

The panel runs on After Effects 24.0 and later, covering the 2024, 2025 and 2026 releases, on both Windows and macOS. On aescripts it currently sits at popularity rank 133, and a demo video is available for a closer look.

Who is Track to New Null best for?

Track to New Null is best for after Effects artists who want to bake AE Motion Tracker or Mocha AE data onto a parented null in a single click.

How much does Track to New Null cost?

Track to New Null is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Does Track to New Null work with After Effects 2024, 2025 and 2026?

Track to New Null runs on After Effects 24.0 and later, which covers the 2024, 2025 and 2026 releases. It works on both Windows and macOS. Inside those versions, the panel reads tracking data produced by AE Motion Tracker and Mocha AE, then bakes it onto a new Null layer. If you are on an After Effects version earlier than 24.0, it falls outside the stated compatibility range, so check the developer's page before installing on an older build.

Does Track to New Null support Mocha AE tracks?

Track to New Null works with Mocha AE as well as AE Motion Tracker, baking data from either onto a brand-new Null layer parented to the source layer. Version 1.1.0 fixed a crash that occurred with long Mocha AE tracks, so lengthy Mocha data is handled in the current release. That fix arrived after the initial 1.0 launch in July 2026.

Can Track to New Null create a null without a parent?

Track to New Null adds a 'Parent to layer' option in version 1.1.0, and it is on by default. With it on, the new null is parented to the source layer. Turning it off instead creates a free null with no parent. That gives you both parented and unparented results from the same one-button panel, depending on how the toggle is set.

Is Track to New Null free?

Track to New Null is listed as free in this catalog. Pricing and licensing terms can change over time, so check the developer's page on aescripts for the current details before downloading. The panel targets After Effects 24.0 and later on Windows and macOS, covering the 2024, 2025 and 2026 releases. A demo video is also available if you want to see how the one-button workflow behaves before installing it on your system.
