Trackerjack earns its place for leaning on After Effects' 3D Camera Tracker to handle longer, more complicated moving tracks, then delivering a Blender scene with camera, footage, and compositor setup already in place. It holds a 5-star rating from 8 reviews.
Trackerjack is a Blender add-on from Jim Elder that carries After Effects 3D camera-tracked footage into Blender. It has two components: an After Effects export panel and a Blender import panel. In After Effects you track footage with the built-in 3D Camera Tracker, create nulls and solids, add the camera information to the TrackerJack panel, then export a JSON file with the tracked data. The Blender import panel reads that file and automatically creates a matched scene.
The import brings in the 3D tracked camera details and animation with background footage attached, and sets scene duration, frame rate, and color settings. Tracked points arrive as point clouds with editable vertices or as empties, and solids come in as mesh planes. Everything is parented to an empty named "World" for scaling and grid alignment, and a provided Human Scale Mesh helps scale to real-world size. A simple compositor setup is created, and any solid named "Shadow" gets a simple Eevee shadow catcher procedural node shader.
You can add more point clouds and layers after the initial import to update the scene. Tested with After Effects 2021 through 2025.4.0 and Blender 2.83 through 4.4.0, Trackerjack is released under the GPL license.
Trackerjack is best for vFX and matchmove artists who track footage in After Effects and want it rebuilt as a matched camera scene in Blender.
Trackerjack is completely free to download and use.
Trackerjack has been tested with After Effects 2021 through 2025.4.0 and Blender 2.83 through 4.4.0, and it works across that range. Because the tool splits into an After Effects export panel and a Blender import panel, you'll need both applications installed to run the full workflow. It ships as a Blender add-on and is listed as Blender Extension compatible. For the current tested version range, check the developer's page, since compatibility can extend as newer releases are tested.
Trackerjack rebuilds a matched scene in Blender from your exported After Effects data. It imports the 3D tracked camera details and animation with the background footage attached, and sets scene duration, frame rate, and color settings. Tracked points come in as point clouds with editable vertices or as empties, while solids become mesh planes. Everything is parented to an empty named "World" for scaling and grid alignment, a Human Scale Mesh is provided for real-world scaling, and a simple compositor setup is created so the scene is ready to render.
Trackerjack works through two panels. In After Effects, you track your footage with the built-in 3D Camera Tracker, create nulls and solids to add detail, enter the camera information into the TrackerJack panel, and export a JSON file with all the tracked data. Then, in Blender, the TrackerJack import panel reads that JSON file and automatically builds the matched scene. You can also add more point clouds and layers after the initial import to keep the scene updated as your project develops.
Trackerjack lists Cycles and Eevee as the render engines it works with. Its shadow-handling shortcut is built for Eevee specifically: any solid you name "Shadow" in your After Effects timeline receives a simple Eevee shadow catcher procedural node shader on import. Alongside that, Trackerjack creates a simple compositor setup during import, so the scene arrives ready to render. This keeps the setup light while you spend more time modeling and animating in Blender.
Trackerjack is listed as free in this catalog and is distributed under the GPL license. Licensing and pricing can change over time, so check the developer's page for the current terms before relying on them. The tool ships as a Blender add-on paired with an After Effects export panel, so make sure you have both applications available to use the full workflow. A demo video is also available if you want to see more before installing.
