Why we like it

Stands out in the aescripts library for its 12 selectable rounding algorithms and its broad compatibility spanning After Effects CS4 through 2026.

What is Vertex Tool?

Vertex Tool works on mask and shape layers in After Effects, applying rounding algorithms to a corner by replacing the original vertex with two (in some cases more) new vertices, based on a specified line length. It ships with 12 corner rounding algorithms to choose from.

Rounding can target one specific vertex or all vertices of multiple selected shapes at once, and the rounding value can be set by pixels or percent. The tool can animate from the initial state to the modified shape, and rounding can be removed using the Find intersection point option. A Vertex Coordinates window shows live coordinates of the vertex in focus, including in/out tangents, and lets you set custom tangents for all or selected vertices.

Shape data can be stored and restored. Vertex Tool supports a wide range of After Effects versions, from CS4 through 2026, and version 1.1.3 was released in February 2026.

Who is Vertex Tool best for?

Vertex Tool is best for after Effects artists rounding mask and shape layer corners.

How much does Vertex Tool cost?

Vertex Tool is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Which After Effects versions does Vertex Tool support?

Vertex Tool supports a wide span of After Effects releases, from CS4, CS5, CS5.5 and CS6 through CC, CC 2014, CC 2015, CC 2015.3, CC 2017, CC 2018 and CC 2019, up to the 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026 versions. This broad range means the script can be used across both older and current installations, so most editors are likely to find their version covered on the compatibility list.

Can Vertex Tool round corners on multiple shapes at once?

Vertex Tool can target one specific vertex, or all vertices of multiple selected shapes at once. The Target: All mode was updated in version 1.1 to work with multiple selected shapes, and both the Vertex Coordinates window and the Find intersection point option work with Target: All. You can set the rounding value by pixels or percent when applying it to your selection.

How does Vertex Tool round a corner?

Vertex Tool applies rounding algorithms to a shape by placing two (in some cases more) new vertices in place of the original one at the selected corner, based on a specified line length. There are 12 corner rounding algorithms to choose from. Rounding can be removed using the Find intersection point option, and shapes can be animated from their initial state to the modified result.

Is Vertex Tool free?

Vertex Tool is listed as free in this catalog, so no price is shown here. For current licensing details, check developer Rendertom's page on aescripts. Note that recent updates, including version 1.1.3 in February 2026 and version 1.1.1 in July 2020, both updated the licensing framework, so the developer's page is the best place to confirm the latest terms before you download and install this After Effects script.
