Viewport Plane earns a place in the Superhive library for combining work plane alignment, real-time symmetry, and view controls into one shortcut-driven Blender add-on.
Viewport Plane is a Blender add-on centered on a dynamic work plane (WPlane) that adapts to your selection, aligning automatically to faces, edges, or vertices. It provides color-coded axis guides (Red=X, Green=Y) and optional movement constraints you can turn on or off as needed. Primitives can be created directly on the work plane so geometry is born aligned.
It also brings real-time symmetry across the X, Y, or Z axis relative to the work plane, mirroring geometry instantly as you extrude, scale, or move. Symmetry includes adjustable blending control ranging from precise joins to generous tolerances, and can be applied with one click to convert it into a permanent mesh. An enhanced View Face Ortho aligns the view orthogonally to any face with distance control, plus rotation around the selection in customizable steps of 15, 45, or 90 degrees.
The add-on maps its controls to shortcuts, including Ctrl+W for WPlane controls, Alt+W for quick view tools, and Ctrl+Numpad keys for camera rotation. It ships with documentation, product updates, and support from Arq. Gustavo Garcia ARCHS.
Viewport_Plane is best for architects, interior designers, product and industrial designers, and 3D and game artists modeling with aligned planes and symmetry.
Viewport_Plane is completely free to download and use.
Viewport Plane's WPlane is a dynamic coordinate system that adapts to your selection rather than a fixed grid. It automatically aligns to faces, edges, or vertices, and displays color-coded axis guides with Red for X and Green for Y. You can enable optional movement constraints and turn them off when not needed. Primitives created while a work plane is active are born aligned to it, so geometry starts positioned correctly from the first vertex instead of requiring manual adjustment afterward.
Viewport Plane offers X, Y, or Z symmetry taken relative to the active work plane, including Z-axis symmetry. Geometry is mirrored instantly as you extrude, scale, or move, so you see the reflection while modeling. An adjustable blending control lets you set anything from precise joins to more generous tolerances. When you're satisfied, you can apply the symmetry with a single click to convert it into a permanent mesh, ending the live mirroring.
Viewport Plane maps its controls to keyboard shortcuts. Ctrl+W opens WPlane controls, Alt+W brings up quick view tools, and Shift+Ctrl+W opens the WPlane master menu with everything in one place. Camera rotation uses Ctrl+Numpad keys: Numpad 4 and 6 rotate left and right, Numpad 8 and 2 rotate up and down, Numpad 5 goes to front view and Numpad 0 to rear view. Ctrl+Shift+Numpad 5 opens a custom angle dialog.
Viewport Plane is listed as free in this catalog. For the most current licensing terms and any purchase details, check the developer's page from Arq. Gustavo Garcia ARCHS. The add-on includes documentation, product updates, and support from the developer, so you can refer to those resources for setup guidance and questions about ongoing use after you download and install it in Blender.
