Vortex - Fluid Enhancements works inside Blender to recover detail that's normally lost when Blender turns a fluid into a mesh. Using data from the actual fluid simulation, it generates accurate normal maps, so waves move along with the flow and form realistic shapes — patterns you'd normally only see at much higher fluid resolution. In a river render, familiar V-shaped rapids appear naturally on an otherwise smooth mesh.
The plugin isn't limited to animation. On still renders, the generated waves and ripples display the underlying flow, making movement easier to read. It includes a physically based water shader that models reflection, diffuse scattering and transmission, and shows diffuse shadows that normal shaders ignore. Though built for fluid simulations, the shaders work with any mesh — simulation data can be replaced by a constant flow speed or a custom flow map texture, as shown with an Ocean Modifier. Wind and foam effects can be layered on top.
The package includes Vortex Flow, Vortex Water, Vortex Foam, the Vortex Manager for quickly generating shader presets, and a reusable flow mapping node. Version 1.2 added support for Blender 5.0+ along with usability improvements.
