X-Over earns its place in the Superhive library for handling curve self-overlap, which is not possible in vanilla Blender without manual adjustment. It is bundled with Genie and a tutorial video is available.
X-Over is a live intersection solver for Blender that lets a curve overlap itself, weaving over and under without self-intersection. It finds problem areas and resolves them on the fly, even when you adjust the curve later, and it runs in real time. Multiple splines within the same curve object can interact, and the stacking order can be inverted.
The solver works on all surfaces and inherits their surface normals. You can output a mesh, the modified curve, or the intersection sites, snap curve points directly onto the surface, and apply a custom profile curve as well as subsequent curve modifiers. A Fast Mode uses shortcuts to find intersections more quickly at reduced accuracy, while Curve Spacing controls curve resolution.
Additional settings include Height Offset for nudging the curve along the surface normal to resolve collisions, Smoothing to relax the resulting layering, and Orientation modes for the curve normal. X-Over is bundled with Genie and requires Blender 4.4 or newer. It can be used to create rope knots, overlapping bandages, spaghetti and similar overlapping curve setups.
X-Over (Automatically Fix Curve Intersections) is best for blender artists building overlapping curve setups like rope knots, bandages and spaghetti without self-intersection.
X-Over (Automatically Fix Curve Intersections) is completely free to download and use.
X-Over requires Blender 4.4 or newer, and is listed as compatible with Blender 4.4 through 4.5. Installation follows the standard addon process: drag the .zip into Blender and confirm, after which X-Over appears in the 3D viewport N-Panel. Because there are a few gotchas noted by the developer, watching the included tutorial before starting is recommended. Make sure your Blender version meets the minimum requirement so the addon loads and shows up in the N-Panel as expected.
X-Over is a live intersection solver, meaning it finds problem areas and resolves them on the fly, even if you adjust the curve later. It runs in real time and lets a curve weave over and under itself without self-intersection. Multiple splines within the same curve object can interact, and the stacking order can be inverted. A Height Offset setting controls how far the curve nudges relative to the surface normal to resolve collisions, and Smoothing can relax the resulting layering.
X-Over supports a custom profile curve used for meshing, and defaults to a curve circle if no input is provided. You can also apply subsequent curve modifiers on top of the result. Output can be a mesh, the modified curve, or the intersection sites, and the solver works on all surfaces while inheriting their surface normals. Orientation settings define the curve normal for custom profile curves, with modes for inheriting from surface normals, minimum twist, and Z-up.
X-Over is listed as free in this catalog, and it is bundled with Genie. It is released under the MIT license. For current licensing and any bundle details, check the developer's page. The addon is installed like any other Blender addon by dragging the .zip into Blender and confirming, after which it appears in the 3D viewport N-Panel. A tutorial video is available and is recommended before you begin, since the developer notes a few gotchas.
