2DFactory stands out in the Superhive library for its modular sprite sheet creation within a full 2D character and equipment workflow, alongside its precise camera and pivot controls.
2DFactory is a Blender add-on built to generate sprite sheets from 3D models with a few clicks. Its feature set includes texture baking, modular sprite sheet creation, pivot placement control, a 2D ruler for direct pixel measurement in the camera view, GIF and JSON output, progressive sheet creation, a Socket feature, and power-of-two output.
Camera positioning is handled by five variables under Camera Coordinate and Camera Offset — Radial Distance, Polar Angle, and Azimuthal Angle set the main view, while Camera Offset fine-tunes the frame, so the same values can be re-used for consistent angles. The 2D Ruler, enabled via the "Add 2D Ruler" checkbox in the Camera Setup panel, lets you measure sprite pixel size directly in Blender. Custom pivots can be set by moving the Pivot Marker in the camera panel, with values stored in the sprite sheet metadata.
Version 1.2.0 extends compatibility to Blender 5.1, adds Socket Coordinate Placement for exporting frame-by-frame coordinates to JSON, and adds MacOS and Linux support through the 2DFactory online installation.
2Dfactory is best for blender artists producing game-ready sprite sheets from 3D models, including 2D character and equipment workflows for game engines.
2Dfactory is completely free to download and use.
2DFactory is compatible with Blender 3.3 LTS through Blender 5.1, with version 1.2.0 extending support to Blender 5.1. This range covers several years of Blender releases, so the add-on works across older LTS builds and current versions. If you are on a specific Blender release within that window, 2DFactory is designed to run there. Check the 1.2.0 documentation on the developer's page for details on setup and any version-specific notes.
2DFactory added support for MacOS and Linux in version 1.2.0, using the 2DFactory online installation. This support is in addition to its standard Blender compatibility, so artists working on those operating systems can run the add-on through the online installation method rather than a manual local setup. The developer notes this online installation as the intended route for MacOS and Linux users. For step-by-step instructions on the online installation process, refer to the 1.2.0 documentation available on the developer's page before you begin.
2DFactory includes a separate Unreal Engine plugin, which was reworked for version 1.2.0 to stay compatible and support a rapid workflow. The plugin is ready for Unreal Engine versions 4.27.2, 5.1.1, and 5.6.1. The Socket Coordinate Placement feature also lets you export frame-by-frame coordinates to a JSON file for use as sockets in game engines when attaching 2D or 3D objects. Wider Unreal Engine version support is planned.
2DFactory is listed as free in this catalog. Anyone who purchased 2DFactory before the version 1.2.0 update receives the updated version at no additional cost. Because licensing terms can change, check the developer's page for the current details before you download. A demo video is also available if you want to see the add-on before setting it up.
