A focused add-on that handles a specific task—turning images into correctly proportioned canvases—and leaves the result fully editable afterward.
Artgen is an add-on by ACP for Blender that builds well-sized canvases from images, keeping the original dimensions and image ratios intact. It is aimed at situations where you need to produce a large number of artworks or canvases, covering paintings, photographs, posters and similar pieces.
After installation, a new tab appears in the N-panel on the right side of the 3D view. Clicking "Generate" creates the artwork and opens a configuration panel in the bottom-left corner of the 3D view, where you can resize the artwork, add the main image and choose whether to preserve the image ratio. Switching to Material Preview or Rendered shows the image texture in the editor.
The generated object can still be modified to suit further needs, such as changing the default materials. Once the configuration panel is exited, the artwork is ready to display. Documentation is provided, and the developer notes that new features may be added over time.
Artgen is best for blender users creating multiple ready-to-display artworks or canvases from images while keeping correct dimensions and ratios.
Artgen is completely free to download and use.
Artgen lists Blender version 3.3 as its supported release. If you are on a different Blender version, check the developer's page for compatibility details before installing. The add-on adds a tab to the N-panel on the right side of the 3D view once enabled, so a working Blender install with access to Edit > Preferences is all that is needed to get started with the tool.
Artgen installs like any other Blender add-on. Go to Edit > Preferences > Add-ons > Install, select the "artgen.zip" file on your disk, then check the box next to the newly installed add-on to enable it. Once active, a new tab becomes available in the N-panel on the right side of the 3D view, and you can click Generate to begin creating an artwork and open its configuration panel.
Artgen displays the image texture once you switch the editor to Material Preview or Rendered mode. After clicking Generate, the configuration panel opens in the bottom-left corner of the 3D view, where you can add the main image, resize the artwork and choose whether to preserve the image ratio. Switching the viewport shading lets you see the applied image while adjusting these properties before exiting the panel.
Artgen is listed as free in this catalog and is released under the GPL license. Licensing and pricing terms can change, so check the developer's page for the current details before you download. The add-on comes with documentation, and the developer notes that new features may be added from time to time, so it is worth watching the product page for updates.
