Smart AutoSave+ Pro stands out in the Superhive library because it saves only when the scene has actually changed, avoiding duplicate files during idle stretches while still keeping a numbered, named version history.
Smart AutoSave+ Pro is an autosave and backup addon for Blender. Where Blender's built-in autosave overwrites the same temp file with no version history, this addon creates numbered, named, organized backups of every version of your work, separated by type and fully searchable.
Its flagship edit-based autosave computes a scene hash at each save and compares the current state on every timer tick, so a backup only fires when something has actually changed. Named checkpoints let you save milestones under custom names that are protected from auto-pruning, and checkpoints or manual saves can upload to Google Drive or Dropbox in a background thread. A session timeline browses every save with thumbnails, timestamps and reasons, with filtering by type and one-click restore.
Smart AutoSave+ Pro runs on Blender 4.0 – 5.1+ across Windows, Mac and Linux under a GPL v3 license. A free Lite version shares the same core autosave engine, edit-based saving and smart startup popup. Its features were shaped by production users, including a compositing freeze fix built around heavy EXR sequences.
Autosave+ Pro - Smart Auto Saving & Crash Prevention is best for blender artists who want automatic version history without managing files by hand, including freelancers relying on named checkpoints and heavy-scene artists uploading backups to Google Drive or Dropbox.
Autosave+ Pro - Smart Auto Saving & Crash Prevention is completely free to download and use.
Smart AutoSave+ Pro supports Blender 4.0 through 5.1 and later, and it runs on Windows, Mac and Linux. It is distributed under a GPL v3 license with all updates included. After installation it appears in the N-Panel of the viewport, which you open by pressing N. You save your .blend file once and the addon handles backups automatically from there. For the current supported range and any newer builds, check the developer's page on Superhive.
Smart AutoSave+ Pro installs like a standard Blender addon. Download the zip from your Superhive purchases page, then open Blender and go to Edit, Preferences, Add-ons. Click Install and select the downloaded zip, then enable the addon. It appears in the N-Panel, which you open by pressing N in the viewport. Save your .blend file once, and the addon takes over automatically from that point on. Documentation is available on the developer's page if you need more detail.
Smart AutoSave+ Pro can upload checkpoints and manual saves to Google Drive or Dropbox. You authenticate once, after which uploads run silently in a background thread, and you can switch providers anytime. Heavy-scene artists can turn on an option to delete local copies after upload, keeping work in the cloud while freeing local storage. This cloud backup was added in version 8.7, and it works alongside the addon's local backups rather than replacing them.
Smart AutoSave+ Pro only saves when your scene has actually changed. It computes a scene hash at each save and compares the current state on every timer tick, so sitting idle produces no backups and no duplicate files, while working for a stretch produces backups automatically and silently. It also includes a first undo safety net, where one silent save fires on your first undo after each autosave, then stays quiet until the next autosave resets it.
Smart AutoSave+ Pro is listed as free here. There is also a free Lite version that shares the same core autosave engine, edit-based saving and smart startup popup, with no payment required. The Pro edition adds named checkpoints, a session timeline, four dedicated save folders and Google Drive and Dropbox cloud backup. Licensing is GPL v3 and all updates are included. For current licensing details, check the developer's page on Superhive.
