What is Autotex Matcher?

Autotex Matcher builds Blender materials from texture folders automatically. Rather than assembling texture nodes by hand, you import one or more models, select a texture folder, and the add-on runs through four stages: import, detect, match, and build. It scans the model folder and valid subfolders for compatible maps, then compares texture-set names against object and material names.

Detection covers common PBR types, including albedo, base color, diffuse, roughness, gloss, metallic, specular, normal, bump, displacement, height, ambient occlusion, alpha, and emission. Matching separates texture sets, recognizes common naming variations, and avoids guessing when multiple sets are equally plausible. The build step creates a Principled BSDF setup with correct color spaces, AO mixing, roughness or inverted gloss, normal and bump support, displacement, alpha, emission, and optional per-shader mapping.

Batch import handles multiple models in one workflow, and failed files do not interrupt the batch. A Material Manager lets you assign a full folder or individual files to selected materials, preview before applying, rebuild a material, or update an existing custom node tree without removing unrelated nodes. Version 1.1 adds preview before apply, non-destructive updates, smarter matching, and more maps and formats.
