Backup Object is a workflow addon for Blender that saves backups of one or more objects with a click. Select the objects you want, press the Backup Object button, and the addon duplicates them completely, including mesh data, and sends the copies to their own collection. Those collections are created inside a parent collection for organization and are automatically hidden from the viewport and rendering.
It can back up any object type, including meshes, cameras, grease pencil and image empties. It works in any Object Mode, so you can keep working without switching out to a specific mode. The addon is non-intrusive and contained in one panel, with options to toggle the display of icons and collections, plus subpanels for the UI list display, cleaning backup collections, and debugging.
Use cases include quick backups while working on a project, retopologizing before a drastic topology change, sculpting to explore different versions, and destructive modeling. An update added an option to include Boolean objects when backing up, for nondestructive workflows such as with the BoxCutter addon.
