Blender lacks native FBX support and often fails to import earlier and newer FBX files. Better Fbx Importer & Exporter, made by Mesh Online, was written from scratch with the official FBX SDK to address that gap. It is compatible with all FBX versions, from ASCII to binary and from FBX 5.3 to FBX 2020, and imports FBX, DAE, OBJ, DXF and 3DS files while exporting FBX, DAE, OBJ and DXF files.
The add-on targets game developers who import FBX into Blender and export to game engines, and 3D artists sharing work with users of other 3D software. It exports mesh LODs for Unreal Engine and Unity Engine, imports PBR material from 3ds Max and Maya, and exports PBR material for Unity Engine, Unreal Engine and Godot Engine. It supports Cycles and Eevee renderers, N-Gons, smoothing groups, automatic bone orientation, armature deform animation, and 'Drag & Drop' and 'Collection Exporters' in Blender 4.2+.
It runs on Windows, Linux and macOS. IK bones, custom bone shapes and multiple bind poses are not supported, though basic IK constraints can be imported and exported since v4.1.10.
