Why we like it

Bevel Profile earns its place in the scriptspot library by wrapping the Bevel Profile modifier in a script that adds Sweep-to-Bevel conversion, quick alignment and 90-degree rotation, and a way to split the result into elements by section IDs — a feature the Sweep modifier offers built-in.

What is Bevel Profile?

Bevel Profile is a 3ds Max script that controls the Bevel Profile modifier. Its core purpose is converting a Sweep modifier to Bevel Profile, though you can also apply a specific shape as the profile and take full control of it — moving, rotating and scaling the profile, or replacing it with another section.

For workflows built around Kstudio's Sweep Profile, an Open Sweep Profile button runs that tool so you can apply a section, then convert it with the Sweep to Bevel Profile button. The script supports Sweep built-in sections and adds Fast Minimum/Maximum alignment along with Fast 90 CW/CCW rotation.

Profiles can be added to a hidden layer called Bevel_Profiles, and each Bevel Profile applied by the script can remember its profile shape for later editing. An 'S' button applies an Edit Poly modifier and splits the object into elements by section IDs, and the script includes auto-detection of selected objects, a Refresh button and a toolbar icon.

Who is Bevel Profile best for?

Bevel Profile is best for 3ds Max artists who work with the Bevel Profile modifier and want to convert Sweep modifiers, apply and transform profile shapes, and split results into elements by section IDs.

How much does Bevel Profile cost?

Bevel Profile is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Does Bevel Profile require Kstudio's Sweep Profile to work?

Bevel Profile works with the Bevel Profile modifier on its own and does not depend on Kstudio's Sweep Profile. If you do have Sweep Profile installed, an Open Sweep Profile button lets you run it, apply a section, then convert that to a Bevel Profile with the Sweep to Bevel Profile button. Without it, you can still apply a specific shape as the profile, transform it with move, rotate and scale, or replace it with another section. The script also supports Sweep built-in sections.

How does Bevel Profile split an object by section IDs?

Bevel Profile includes an 'S' button that applies an Edit Poly modifier and splits the Bevel Profile object into elements depending on section IDs, an option the Sweep modifier offers built-in. You need to assign the IDs manually on the Edit Poly modifier elements first. In earlier releases this feature did not always work correctly in some cases, and that issue was fixed in a later update.

Where does Bevel Profile store the profile shapes?

Bevel Profile can place the section shape into a layer called Bevel_Profiles, which stays hidden, and can hide that layer when the script closes through its checkboxes. Each Bevel Profile applied by the script can also remember its profile shape for later editing. While the script is open, the scale spinners control the section's dimensions; if you reopen the script it loses the section, so the spinners then control scale rather than dimensions unless you type the section name into the Section name field.

What should I do if Bevel Profile gets stuck while picking the section?

Bevel Profile sometimes stops at the section-picking step, particularly when converting a Sweep modifier to Bevel Profile. If that happens, just pick the section you want to apply and the script will continue; when converting from Sweep, that section is already positioned in the middle of the screen. A related error when converting Sweep to Bevel Profile was reported and fixed in a later update, so keeping the script current helps avoid it.

Is Bevel Profile free to download?

Bevel Profile is listed as free here. Licensing terms can change, so it's worth checking the developer's page on Gumroad for the current details before you download. The script is published by obaida and distributed through obaidaviz.gumroad.com. From there you can also confirm the most recent version and any notes the developer provides about installation, updates and usage for the script.
