BH Smart Sym earns its place for keeping symmetry work inside Edit Mode with clickable axis arrows and control over which faces get mirrored. It's compatible with Blender 4.4 and newer and released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later.
BH Smart Sym adds interactive 3D arrows to the Blender viewport for symmetrizing selected faces in Edit Mode. Select the faces or vertices you want to mirror, then click an arrow to symmetrize along X, Y, or Z. The operation runs relative to the object's origin and respects object rotation, and you can symmetrize an entire model or only specific parts such as a bevel, detail, or edge. The arrows stay at a constant on-screen size, follow the view, and refresh automatically.
The default hotkey is Alt + X and can be customized in the add-on preferences, where arrow size is also adjustable. Right-click or press Esc to exit the mode.
Version 1.1.2 adds axis hotkeys, so X/Y/Z mirror in the positive direction and Shift+X/Y/Z mirror in the negative direction without aiming the mouse. Smart Seam Cleanup removes redundant flat edges created by mirroring while keeping creases and tips intact; it's on by default and toggled with E or from the redo panel. A selection-aware gizmo moves the arrows to your selection's center when you press V, while mirroring still happens through the real origin.
BH Smart Sym is best for blender modelers symmetrizing selected faces in Edit Mode with clickable axis arrows and per-selection control.
BH Smart Sym is completely free to download and use.
BH Smart Sym is compatible with Blender 4.4 and newer, so you'll need a matching or later version installed to use it. The add-on runs in Edit Mode, where it displays interactive 3D arrows in the viewport for symmetrizing selected faces. It's distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later and installs through Blender's extensions system by drag-and-drop into Blender or from disk. If you're on an older Blender release, check the developer's page for details before installing.
BH Smart Sym can symmetrize an entire model or only specific parts. Switch to Edit Mode and select the faces or vertices you want to mirror — for example, a bevel, detail, or edge — then click one of the 3D arrows to mirror along that axis. Selecting all faces symmetrizes the whole mesh. The operation runs relative to the object's origin and respects the object's rotation. Right-click or press Esc to exit the mode when you're done.
BH Smart Sym uses Alt + X as its default hotkey, and you can customize it in the add-on preferences, where arrow size is also adjustable. Version 1.1.2 adds direct axis hotkeys so you can mirror without aiming the mouse: X, Y, or Z mirror in the positive direction, and Shift+X, Shift+Y, or Shift+Z mirror in the negative direction. Pressing V moves the arrows to your selection's center, though mirroring still happens through the real origin.
BH Smart Sym's Smart Seam Cleanup automatically removes redundant flat edges created by mirroring, while keeping real shape features such as creases and tips intact. Introduced in version 1.1.2, it's on by default and can be toggled with the E key or from the redo panel. It runs alongside the standard symmetry operation, which mirrors your selected faces relative to the object's origin along the axis you choose from the interactive arrows.
BH Smart Sym is listed as free here in the catalog, and it's released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. The add-on requires no special permissions in Blender. For current licensing terms and the source code, check the developer's page on GitHub. You can add it by dragging and dropping the file into Blender or installing it from disk through Blender's extensions preferences.
