Book Wizard 2 earns its place in the superhive library for pairing a Books Generator with a Covers Generator, so you can fill shelves and then generate matching covers from a small set of textures. Keep in mind the Covers Generator requires the Cycles render engine and the base material provided with the books.
Book Wizard 2 is the Blender add-on for generating books and covers for your libraries according to your settings, with a random distribution. It's built from two distinct scripts. The Books Generator duplicates base book models across shelves with random dimensions and positions, adding small realistic deformations. The Covers Generator modifies the provided Cycles material by changing its textures to create many combinations, and it must be used with the Cycles render engine.
With over 20 settings for book creation and modular cover textures, you can produce libraries with the degree of variation you want, generating hundreds of covers from a few basic textures. Book colors can be defined randomly or from an image holding the colors you want, editable directly in Blender for an almost real-time result. The add-on can use instances or the provided low poly books to save memory, and it reuses textures to keep the GPU texture count down.
You can also use your own book models and cover textures, though that removes palette-based coloring. Version 2.1 added automatic shelves detection, books grouping, Y-axis shifting, and stack height limits and variation.
Book Wizard 2: Books Creation Tools is best for populating interior scenes in Blender with varied, book-filled libraries rendered in Cycles.
Book Wizard 2: Books Creation Tools is completely free to download and use.
Book Wizard 2 splits into two scripts, and its Covers Generator must be used with the Cycles render engine. The Covers Generator works by modifying the provided Cycles material and changing its textures to create many different cover combinations. The Books Generator handles the geometry side, duplicating base book models across shelves with random dimensions, positions and small realistic deformations. Because covers depend on that provided material, the base books ship with a specific material that the Covers Generator needs in order to work, so keeping that material intact matters.
Book Wizard 2 works with the books and graphics provided in the package, and it can also be used with your own book models and your own cover textures. The trade-off is that using your own models does not let you set book colors according to a palette. With the provided base books, colors can be defined randomly or from an image containing the colors you want, editable directly in Blender for an almost real-time result. The Covers Generator also requires the material provided with the base books.
Book Wizard 2 offers a few ways to keep resource use manageable across large libraries. It can use instances of the book models or the provided low poly version of the books to save memory. It also reuses textures, which saves places against the GPU maximum texture count, so a large library can carry plenty of variety at the same texture cost. The result is lower memory usage overall, alongside the option to generate hundreds of covers from a few basic textures.
Book Wizard 2 reached version 2.1 on February 10th, 2016, adding several features. These include automatic shelves detection, books grouping, Y-axis shifting, and stacks height limit and variation. An integrative PDF in the documentation covers the new features, and a short video is available to show them. If you purchased before that date, you could download the new product and replace the old one. The package also includes separate manuals for both the Books Generator and the Covers Generator.
Book Wizard 2 is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing terms can change, so check the developer's page for the current details before you rely on it for a project. The package includes the Books Generator script and manual, the Covers Generator script and manual, a blend file with base book models with shape keys, low poly versions and two open book models, plus textures and color palettes for the Covers Generator and the open books.
