Camera2View earns its place in the blender_extensions library for turning viewport framing into an animated camera without touching constraints or the camera object directly. Note it's listed as compatible with Blender 4.2 LTS and marked unsupported on 4.5 and above.
Camera2View is a Blender add-on from zets that builds a camera out of whatever you're looking at in the 3D viewport. One click captures your current view and creates a camera in exactly that position and angle, names it Camera2View_1 and onward, switches to camera view, and locks the viewport to the new camera.
From there you can keyframe the camera's position and rotation for basic moves, and step between multiple Camera2View cameras with Next and Previous buttons to compare angles. Keyframe navigation jumps to the next or previous keyframe of the active camera, and you can key individual properties like focal length, ortho scale, lens unit, clipping range and lens shift straight from the panel.
All of this lives in a single tab in the 3D Viewport sidebar, opened with the N key. It's aimed at animators and scene designers blocking out camera moves, and at previs, cutscene and flythrough work. The current version is 1.5.1, listed as compatible with Blender 4.2 LTS.
Camera2View is best for animators and scene designers blocking out camera moves, plus previs, cutscene and flythrough work.
Camera2View is completely free to download and use.
Camera2View lists compatibility with Blender 4.2 LTS and is marked unsupported on Blender 4.5 and above. If you're running 4.5 or newer, the add-on isn't listed as supported for that version, so behaviour there isn't guaranteed. The current release is version 1.5.1, published in May 2025. For the latest word on version support, check the developer's page, where compatibility and any future updates are noted. Users on Blender 4.2 LTS are on the version the add-on actually targets.
Camera2View adds its controls to a dedicated tab in the 3D Viewport sidebar. Once the add-on is installed, press N to open the sidebar, then select the Camera2View tab. From that panel you create cameras from your view, keyframe position and rotation, step between cameras with Next and Previous, navigate keyframes, and keyframe individual camera settings. Keeping everything in one panel means there's no need to hunt through menus to reach these camera functions.
Camera2View can keyframe a camera's position and rotation for basic moves, and it also handles individual camera properties: focal length for zoom, ortho scale for orthographic cameras, lens unit, clipping range and lens shift. Each of these has a Keyframe button next to the property in the panel, so you set keys directly rather than searching through menus. This makes it straightforward to animate lens changes alongside a camera's movement across your animation timeline.
Camera2View is listed as free in this catalog and is distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. That license covers how you can use, modify and share the add-on. Because licensing terms and any options can change, check the developer's page for the current details before you rely on them. The extension also states that it requires no special permissions, so it doesn't ask for anything beyond a standard install.
